So the much discussed and maligned Italian flagged 360 CS made it home after 16 plus months of being for sale. I believe a couple of folks on this board looked at it and almost bought the car but ultimately left a brave soul like me to take the plunge ;)

The good news is that after so many PPIs and missed sales, the dealer was ready to move the car and opted to fix a bunch of things in order to make it happen, unfortunately for him the car was already branded with scarlet letter by cognoscente on this board (and not so cognoscenti) who had passed their verdict on its condition and relative value (not to forget the painted flag). This gave me plenty of background information and insight so after some haggling that started in August we finally arrived at mutually agreeable price that suited my budget for a fun road and track car and left some cushion for the repairs and other tweaks.

The work done in the last few months included a full belt service, new clutch, new tires and repaired rims and a new wiring harness (some bonehead spiced a radar detector into the main harness) all by the dealer or F-car specialist. This addressed many of the issues identified by prior buyers.

    Impressions:
In light of the price and many of the negative comments about the car, I really expected a rough looking car and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. It drives very well and pulls very strong into the revs without a stumble. Lift inspection shows no prior accidents - only the typical road rash. The paint is very nice, and while the flag thing really didn’t appeal to me, in person it’s actually very well done. My wife even thinks think it suits the car well considering its loud and brash nature… The #9 on the door is silly, but again in keeping with the intended use as a road and track (maybe I should add a 6 in front?). The interior has held up nicely though there is fading on the dash. I may not be as finicky as some, but the comments I read about the car being ”trashed” leads me to wonder if they actually saw the car in person. I would rate the car in overall good condition (7-8 range). Though it is not without issues, these include; stuck front hood latch (fixed), hazy headlights, yellowing clear bra, missing radio code, only one set of keys and no pin, gas tank that won’t fill up properly and has thrown a CEL, rough start up (first 10 secs) when cold, and the transmission warning light coming on briefly down shifting from 3 to 2… Even PPIs don’t catch every thing so I guess I’ll be posting about that for insight.

Plan for this weekend… club breakfast and local track :)

Great story- good luck with the car- I KNOW you're going to have fun with it and have the right attitude!

The startup stumbles for the first/cold start are "normal/common" for the 360's and I wouldn't bother worring about it- don't push the gas pedal, just let the car get to normal idle on it's own per my mechanic. The symptom may go away with regular use- mine doesn't do the cold start stumble when driven every week or two.

If by gas filling problems you mean after a fill the gauge doesn't go all the way to 10 bars that is common (mine goes to 8 or 9 bars- I really don't care as the gauge is accurate otherwise)

The CEL could be any number of things- interesting if it is related to fueling and goes away after a couple miles.

Put the radio code on the list of to do things that you may never get to as you'll have more fun driving the car than listening to the radio :)

I like your idea of the 6 in front of the 9 better than FerrariDublin's suggestion of having a "fair whack" :)

Congrats on the purchase. Just think, you have the only CS with the Italian flag on the hood in the world! I kinda like the way it looks. Enjoy.

In 20+ years this thing could be crossing the auction block somewhere with it's unique paint job, and we can all be kicking ourselves that we didn't buy it way back in 2010 :)

I would leave the paint job and enjoy the car and decide what if anything you want to do in time.

Much different scenario, but when I bought my 360 I thought for sure I would want to install a challenge grill, but now the all red rear has grown on me....my wife likes the all red better than the challenge grill. I probably saved myself $1,500 by just living with the car for a bit!

Not sure if all you 360/430 owners know this but...

You cannot depress the accelerator pedal during starting of the car or the Bosch Motronic ME7.3 engine management system won't work properly (may actually be causing the CEL!). The throttle is digital (2 potentiometers) and needs to be recalibrated every time the car starts so if you press it the calibration cannot take place.

Other thing is to check if it had its ignition ecu's reflashed (recall campaign) which used to cause uneven engine starting.

    Good luck!

PS. if you ever get bored of that flag you could always get its repainted. No big deal? Many 360's/430's have their front end resprayed due to stone chips so not all that uncommon.

    Enjoy in rude health!

That's what I was thinking. Just re paint the car. As long as it's done properly and it's the same original color I can't imagine it would hurt the value that badly.
