Well, since i've spoken to a few fchatters already, i might as well do like the rest and make a thread about my new purchase. A 1987 Testarossa red/cream, I'm really looking forward to the spring now. I had alot of help from this site answering questions and helping me make the best descion i can.

JF308 helped me answer alot of questions and sent a ton of pics for me. He was the key to this deal, he spent time taking the car places, answering emails, phone calls and satisfying every question i had. He presented the car so accuratley that when i saw the car, i couldn't find some of the issues he mentioned (eg. small nic on window trim). I had to ask the seller to show me.

He paid attention to every detail and proved every question beyond my satisfaction. A true Ferraristi and a great example of what Ferrari is all about. The comeraderie and freindships created from many thousand kms away from a common interest. Dave Helms (Scuderia Rampante) is also a true gentleman, after spending some of his valuable time with my wife and I he left us with a great impression, A man with a wealth of knowledge and kindness and not afraid to share what he knows.

I hope to enjoy ownership of this car as much as i enjoyed the hunt.

    Thanks
    JF308

You will love the TR. I once owned a 1986 TR w/single mirror and loved it...I even used it as a daily driver for ~ 9 months. I owned it 4 years/50k miles and the only failure I ever had was a clutch slave cylinder...I had one major service done at ~$5k...

    Hi John,

welcome to the number 1 Ferrari club, the TR group! I believe we love our TR's more than any other group loves theirs, a little self centered, but what the hec, that's the TR for ya! Congratulations on the purchase and I am sure you are glad the search is over and the love affair will now commence. Can you tell us more about the TR and where you got it? Based on your pic, it looks like a EURO TR and I was wondering if it is a Dubai TR. Look at the driver side door well and the face plate for emissions/customs, if it is in arabic, it is a dubai TR.

I have the same TR as you. Here is mine, s/n 69967:

Thanks, Jason, the sn looks like it was a middle east car but it was brought to the US in 87. It was converted to meet the US laws in 87. The sn is #69809 i guess that would make us almost neighbours. do you have a closeup of your side marker lights? I don't like the ones I have. I think the conversion was done by Fast Forward or Amerispec.

Many Dubai TR's were brought to the US because the original owners wanted a EURO TR and not a US version and thus, Ferrari made the Dubai cars to fill the need. Just check the face plate on your driver side door jam and if it's in arabic, it's a dubai TR. Mine was originally purchased new by a Doctor and it was imported to him in 87. The shop in NJ that did the import also did the conversion, very limited one, and they did a really nice job. The only covnersions that I am aware of on my TR is the black rear bumper cover, side lights, and the speedometer, that's it, and I mean, that's it, not even a third brake light. Here are some more pics, not sure if they are close enough for the side marker lights.

those side marker lamps can be removed, but the bumper and rear quarters will need to be painted.

Hey Rock, wouldn't you have to fill the holes in the rear quarters? (body filler??)

Hello John, the quaters are aluminum and need to be tig welded. Yes a small amount of filler will be needed and the paint can be blended to hide the repair. Do you have front markers? If so are they in the bumper or front fender?

The front ones are in the bumper which is fiberglass and can be patched like the rear black US bumper holes i believe. Has anyone done this to the rear quarters before??? What else is aluminum??
