Bought my first one this spring a 1981 308 gtsi with 49000 miles. I have always wanted one since I was a kid. The car was my dads business partners which he owned for 10 years. Car is in very nice shape with 288 rims and a euro spoiler. We know a ferrari guy who did a complete service on it. belt, seals, water pump, adjust valves, hoses and change all fluids. I have put 1500 miles on it and love every minute. Car runs perfect and drives great. One problem I have a oil leak on the rear distributor. I have replaced the new seal with another new seal from ferrari. the plug is in the end of the cam so that is not it. I even tried a speedie sleeve did not work. the oil is everywhere in the distridutor so could it be the piece of the cam that comes off. I would think if it was the seal the oil would drip straight down and not be on the top and the sides. One thing that we found was strange was the seal that we put in the front distributor was a different color and went on tighter (bought at same time from ferrari) the rear seal is a lighter in color and was not at tight. How do I take that pin out without damaging the cam. I just got today news seals that are not Ferrari they are industrial oil seals with same size. I have been working on cars (chevy) and other stuff for a long time now and will learning this car. Car is home in my garage and I am working on it I have all the tools I just new some insight. I have have been doing searches here and have learned alot from this site. Thanks for any help jim Also the motor was redone before my dads partner owned it. I have great paper work on the car. thanks again

Maybe try posting in the technical section? I'm not a wrencher type (but I'm learning, I guess you have to when you buy one of these cars) so sorry I could not be of any help.

    Hi and welcome!

I think you are on the right track noticing the difference in tolerances...possibly one of the distributors has been replaced and is newer?

Looks like you found the info on the cam plugs.....maybe put a micrometer on the shaft and confirm not excessive wear at the o-ring seat? You are also correct it doesn't have to come in a yellow box, to keep rolling! LOL!

Will be changing out the new Ferrari seal with a $4.00 aftermarket seal with the same size od but a little tighter id. Found some info here tonight about a spacer that was added that was 1.25mm thick before the seal.
Ferrari changed part numbers in a service bullitain in 87. It changed the seals part numbers. If i am correct they used 2 seals. Different seals for rotation of each cam. the new seal is bydirectional but does need this spacer part number 133066. Any one else bought a distributor cam seal recently. this is my third from ferrari. One other thought the seal from ferrari is 8mm thick and if i find this spacer that is 1.25 mm thick I have a total of 9.25 mm
my after market seal is 8mm thick so it will be thinner that what it should be. Maybe not set it all the way in the housing. Also has anyone taken out the pin on the cam i would also like to change that o ring. mine will not move.
    thanks for any help jim

check the ferrari service notices as there is a mod to fix what sounds to be your problem. It's a real pain to do as the Ferrari part has to be drilled. I don't have the specific notice but you can probably find it on one of my messages on this site OR search on oil leak. Good luck.
