worth buying?
My friend bought it and loves it. But he's a newer fan. I think it's alright, and if you're a tool fan of old you may be slightly disappointed. I think you can go to walmart and listen before you buy or something like that. But I'm going to the Tool concert here in Houston on September 11th. I'm looking forward to it.
I like the album. I am not a harcore fan though and only listen to half the CD. The other half ie. chanting, moaning, and sticks on rim of drums for 15 mins just doesnt do it for me. I guess I'm not listening to it high.
Songs 1 (Vicarious) and 5 (The Pot) are the best on the album... There are two or three other songs that aren't so bad, but it's certainly not an album that will thrill you from beginning to end - at least in my humble opinion... Like MButner said, the chanting, moaning and other such assorted mumbo jumbo just doesn't do it for me...
Has anyone actually looked through the CD packet with the supplied glasses? Its pretty trippy. Just relax your eyes as much as possible and all the pics blur into one producing a 3-D image. Oh, and Carbon, I agree about tracks 1 & 5. Track 8 finally grew on me after I had the album for a month. Fast forward about halfway through the track where the bass/drums just grind a fantastic workout line for another 4 or 5 minutes. FYI: I read a review of the album. Apparently Tool believe that we as Americans are over stimulated (seriously). They produce an album that is free of "clutter" to purify the listening pallete. Its an interesting idea that if a bit snobbish, is still something that may be at least partially true. In practice it makes for a fairly boring album but still an interesting thought to ponder.
I like the new album quite a bit. No, they will never top Aenima, so give that notion up. I find the new album harsher and more prog-rockish than Lateralus. They usually have wierd filler on their albums, so the chanting thing (Lipan Conjuring) is no different. There's actually less filler on this one that in the past. Besides Vicarious and the Pot (which sound like old Tool), I love Jambi. I also think Lost Keys => Rosetta Stoned is way cool, but I can see how it might annoy some folks. If you like Tool at all, you should like this album. The more you listen, the more it grows on you. And see them live if at all possible - they are incredible! -steve
