SB 589 (window tint) seems interesting. Does this mean that I have to go get a sticker from the tint shop? And if the shop is no longer? I can already see the inspection shops peddling "check your tint or else get a ticket". What BS for the lawful tints.

OH and BTW i like the parking ticket fine increase to $25. why dont they just increase to something like $1,000?

Thanks for posting this. Interesting to see the new seatbelt laws. I do have a problem with the "child seat up to 8 years old unless 4'9" tall." Way too much safety police.

I'm curious too. Or does it mean from this point on if you have tint put on it's the shops responsibility to make sure the proper documentation is noted?

so about the tint, is it saying that anything lower than legal percentage is going to result in a $1k fine? I just got mine tinted at 20%, I don't know if legal is still 35% but if it is am I going to have to get them redone? This sucks man.
And how the hell are they going to charge you more for windows being too dark than if a kid isn't in a child seat? That makes sense!

when I was in the academy, legal tint was dropped to 25%, I'll double check. I haven't stopped anyone for tint though. As for child seats, I guess I could see the purpose as I have a co-worker who has a son that is really short and hasn't hit his growth spurt, all his others are 6' and late growers. I stop folks for those kids I see jumping around in the car unrestrained, mainly ensure that the driver straps them back in or with the proper equipment. I don't want to work another accident when I see a 4 year old ejected through a windshield.

I apologize...it is 20% tint now...Came down again since the academy. I'm laid back and have other issues to tend to than spot checking window tint, lol. Different situation if I need to stop a car. I used to have a car with 20% before I became an officer, but I was never stopped for it.

the seatbelt laws baffle me....how on earth is it illegal to not wear a seatbelt inside of a 5,000 lb car but its ok to not wear a seatbelt while cruising around on a motorcycle without anything to protect you......I wish they'd just admit these violations were nothing more than another tax on us citizens.

I had a $20 ticket for a parking meter violation even though I put 4 quarters in the machine at 5:30 and it went off at 6. I overpaid to make sure bc I wasn't sure but later found out it was in 15 minute increments, this was right infront of the Fish in midtown. Sure enough I still got a ticket, I called the number on my ticket and was told I could go fight it, but it would be cheaper to just pay it because my gas to court would cost me more.....so basically I should just give the city $20 anyways it's not worth fighting them even when I'm right.

Not to mention the few hundred thousand kids that will be riding a school bus each day with NO SEAT BELTS!

I get so angry when I see kids hoping around the car/truck without seatbelts. It irritates me to no end. I see it way too often.

Seatbelts on a motorcycle would just be stupid, imo. They are much more likely to survive being thrown over a car than if they had a seatbelt on and stopped suddenly.

The new seatbelt rule annoys me.

Remember when this started? "Oh, don't worry, they can't pull you over for ONLY a seatbelt violation."

Didn't take long for that promise to get stomped. Click it or Ticket == revenue enhancement.

Now its everyone in the car in all seats. I cannot see how this is a safety issue or really anyone's business but my own. It's just more probable cause for the tax collectors.

Ironic, isn't it, that we had airbags forced on us so that cars would be perfectly safe if you didn't bother to wear your seat belts?

But now that we have paid for the airbags we are still being ticketed for not wearing the redundent seat belts -

Be thankful there isn't a helmet law. I could just see you guys in these beautiful cars looking like bobble heads. Just a little humor. I do understand the anger in the seatbelt law. There are so many dumb laws, like i have to wear a helmet on my bike but, you see someone on a motorcycle with not only no helmet but, shorts and flip flops. It's nuts!

Enough about what sucks, lets talk about what's good.

The CHL laws are continuing to be clarified and the changes are in favor of the license holder, as I see it, and that can only be a good thing.

Tillman - it becomes my business and your business when the driver/passengers get into a wreck, suffer injuries complicated by not wearing a seatbelt, they are uninsured/underinsured and we all end up footing the medical bills. The only way to get around it is to make sure every driver is adequately bonded/insured...then they can be responsible for their own actions. That system clearly does not work now.
