WOW! I just read AUTOCAR and their test of the VEYRON. 0-100 was 5.5! The ULTIMA does it in 5.3!!! WOW!!!

    Thanks

Caparo claims its T1 does 0-100 in 5 seconds. I wonder how fast 0-100-0 will be. I guess we'll have to wait for the first production cars to hit the road (in September) :).

While the performance is fantastic, the car has always just seemed to be a high horsepower kit car to me.

Actually I didn't know that. I always thought it was purchased complete. I guess that does explain a lot. It sure does deliver the goods though. Can't argue with those numbers

As impressive is that is, that car is a race car. Just because they stuck bumpers on it and got it road legal in a few countries doesn't really qualify it as a road car in my book. If you can't imagine going out on a date in it with your new gal then I think it's a race car. "I'd really like to talk to you but the deafening roar of the engine and road noise just doesn't make it possible". Hmm maybe this isn't such a bad car for dates.

That's pretty good! The last one beat the Mclaren F1's record, I think it was right around 11 seconds.

True, but they are very well built, I suppose you could also say the same for Lotus or Tvr

The fit and finish of the interior of a Lotus or TVR far exceed that in the Ultima. If I bought an Ultima with any intent other that solely track duty, the interior would be in for a major overhaul. Other than that, I love them and would love to get a Can-Am.

Nothing more than a kit-car/race car

Not really just a kit car....

Initially designed by Lee Noble (of Noble cars), and test mule for the McLaren F1.... it gives the car some credentials i guess.

Sure it's not that subtle, but unlike a caparo it IS road legal, and in the end, it's probably as useable day to day as a CS, but will drive rings around it anytime.
US lump also a plus, should remain somehow cheap to maintain.

Too bad it slowly looks dated

I don't go much on the Can-am, I see a pair out one day presumably near the factory and one was the Can-am and the other the Gtr, and I much prefered the Gtr

So what do you think about the F40, F50, Enzo, 360CS, Porsche GT3, Carrera GT, or Pagani Zonda?

Compared to the Ultima those are all road-going cars with the exception of possibly the F40 which is almost 20 years old.

The fit/finish of the interior is all up to the buyer of the kit. Most buyers want to keep weight down and performance up, so there isn't a need for sound insulation and bells/whistles/leather/cup holders/air conditioning. I'm sure if you wanted to spend another 15K and have a professional automotive interior company go through and make it "luxurious", you could. And after all that you'd still only be spending 90-95K all said and done (maybe another 10K more for the 700+bhp engine).

Hold a grudge if you want to for it being a kit car, but there is no "donor" car and it is purpose built from the ground up. It's as close to being a factory car that you can get. I think it's just amazing that for less than 100K you can get performance the same as cars that are 100's of thousands more.

They are obviously on the edge of being road going cars but the Ultima goes over that edge in my book.

No doubt. It is certainly a serious performance car.
