    Hello petrolheads.

Newly registered on the forums looking to delve into the Ferrari world.

Long time petrolhead with performance cars such as E92 M3, Cayman 981 and Carrera 991.2 under my belt.

Now I am looking into fulfilling my childhood dream of owning a Ferrari and have my eyes on a California from 2010.

Cali because it's European-roadtrip bound together with my GF and needs to be somewhat convenient and not a hardcore sports model. Price also helps a bit;)

Any input on choise for first Ferrari?

The one I am looking at has 17,4K miles (28K km) on the clock and roadtrip will be ca 4K miles. Anything special to consider?

    Cheers

Curious on reliability when doing a relatively long trip during a short period of time. A newly serviced car such as the Cali should be hassle free I presume? As I will be putting on ca 4K miles in about 4 weeks, maybe others have experience on that matter. Should I map out Ferrari service centers on the route to be safe? :D

I will be driving both autobahn and in alp passes stelvio/susten-style with ca 4-6h/day behind the wheel when traveling between stops.

Also, what is the range when driving casually on the motorway with "normal" acceleration etc. How far will a go on autobahn that is without doing crazy stuff.

Super hard to say. You have to do the usual, full PPI with a qualified servicer. Even then, things often get missed. What I would recommend is to get the car a little bit ahead of time (with the PPI and as much service records as possible) and then drive it for a month or so. The first couple of months of ownership allows you to 'shake down' the car much like you would a yacht. Overlooked issues and problems manifest and certain quirks appear. Of course, my hope is that the first period presents zero things. Even low mileage, brand new Ferrari can have complete breakdowns. Just the nature of the exotic world.

But if after a month or so of trouble free driving, I would not have any reservations of driving it longer term.

If you are set on a California spend some time looking at the California (model) section - advice & foibles etc - if you register your car at myferrari.com you get a free tow to the nearest dealer in the event of a breakdown (service is called Con Te / With You) - many folk take recent (and not so recent) Ferraris on extended European road trips - JFDI

Great to hear and ty for comprehensive input!

If this deal translates into reality, it will be from a Ferrari authorized dealer freshly serviced and with full PPI. Also I will get the car at least two months ahead of my trip and will for sure put 1K miles or so on the clock.

    I'll keep you posted!

    Cheers
