i heard about this a couple weeks ago. this is in addition to a 1% increase in auto sales tax (now 4%) and an exra 0.4% home selling tax just for nova. there are WAY TOO MANY taxes in this area. a lot of it pay for that stupid metro thing.

Went to have my Caddy inspected and emissions done the other day at local gas station...guess what? They are now required to charge Sales Tax on these mandatory inspections because they are labor!

It this state messed up or what?

Loudoun County has taken the state to court to have part of these taxes repealed, their argument is that VDOT cannot collect taxes as they are not elected officials. Stand by to stand by!

Great I hope Loudoun wins and sets a good precedent for the rest of us.

All this tax money for an ulgy elevated train going through Tysons...brilliant!

If you have old cars, like me, it might be cheaper to buy a lift and some new tools and just do your own wrenching on the weekends.

I hope they win also...the car guys are taking it in the shorts. Those of us who have large collections are paying a heavy tax for cars that are not on the roads most of the time. (only have two drivers in my family). Just wait until you get your plate renewal in the mail and see how much the tags are gonna cost this year! Lets raise the cigarette and gas taxes and quit all the fooling around with the other stuff. Let the heavy users pay the bills.

What amazes me is that with the large tourism in this state...the gas tax would get visitors to help pay for the roads as anyone who drives through here or stays here ends up buying a tank or more of gas!

    Guys,

We are all going to get nailed by this with our insurance rates. Previously insurance companies only had to pay sales tax on parts and paint and materials that left on customer's cars. Now, that tax is on labor including sublet labor and towbills, insurance companies have to pay hundreds more, and for train wreak and exotic labor rate cars, perhaps a thousand dollars more per repair. Who is going to pay it? Us, when they hike our premiums in this area.

This is exactly why I moved out of VA. Their tax laws are INSANE. When I was there the property tax on my cars was $3700/year for my daily and $3800/year for my pcar. That was $630/month in car tax. The tax on my townhouse was only $5k/year. How retarded is that?
