Ferrari has put a few versions of DCN/F carbs on these engines. Any opinions if it hurts values to relpace with new. The thought is: New carbs are available, they seem reasonably priced when you consider rebuild kits and plating costs, and IIRC, they're up to version 13, and I would suspect newer is better, ie more refined. Does this matter to cars value?. Thanks.

I believe the newer DCOEs are felt to be of lower quality than the old ones, so the latter are prized. I don't know anything about the newer DCNFs.

U can rebuild the originals and have the parts plated pretty inexpensively. It's not hard to do....call the guys at Pierce manifolds in Gilroy calif....the rebuilt ones are as good as new..and much less expensive

    Thanks guys:

I hear you. I've done the rebuild repeatedly in the ~27+ years with these cars; but, kind of like distrib's, you sometimes wonder if it wouldn't be nicer to just re-new. Good plating runs 200 - 250. Rebuild kits 40 - 80ish each so that's ~ 490 worst case to re-build the 3 carb's.

Now I've seen new Weber's that I believe are version 13 (presumably better??? and granted that's a big presumption) for about that 490 # for one. So 3x the cost, and the only fiddling is tuning which would be needed after re-building anyway ----Hmmmmmm???

Just thinking this through with fellow F-chatters.

    Thanks

Word of warning, these are not new Weber carb's as far as I know. They have been remade under license. With that said I purchased three new Webers and had nothing but trouble from them.

After many failed attempts to balance and get them to idle I discovered that the progression holes are drilled in the wrong place allowing more fuel to bypass the throttle openings at idle.

They may have cured the problem but be warned, I returned them and refitted the old ones with much relief.

I spent a huge sum of money getting the old ones re-plated, cleaned and overhauled only for them to look old once again a few years later.

Restoration is OK to make something work properly but cosmetic surgery to make something look nice never lasts on a car that's used. Been there and done it.
