A new racing facility is in the works near Wellington, and they need our help...

    Dear Florida Region SCCA Member,

You will find two attachments to this e-mail, pertaining to the plan to BRING RACING BACK TO PALM BEACH COUNTY! One attachment (entitled Benefits/Ask Information Handouts) was presented to a meeting of more than 100 people held earlier this week, at which the project coordinator discussed in detail what needs to happen for this project to move forward. To answer the first questions that I know you will have - YES, the project includes a road course, currently planned to be 2.7 miles long and of sufficient quality to attract pro events. There will also be a 1/4 mile drag strip and a very large drift pad. The location is at Twentymile Bend on U.S. 98, west of Wellington.

Yes, there's a lot that needs to happen and it's far from a done-deal yet. The first thing that needs to happen is to convince the Palm Beach County Board of Commissioners to get fully behind this project and do the necessary work to get this county-owned land ready for the project developer to start construction.

THE COMMISSION WILL BE MEETING NEXT TUESDAY MORNING, AUGUST 20TH, and we need as many of our members to attend. The second attachment provides a link for you to sign up; even if you're not interested in speaking, we need the headcount!

Please do your best to attend this meeting - if we pack the room with racing people, it will send a strong message to the Board of County Commissioners that their actions are being watched by people who can vote FOR them, or AGAINST them, the next time they are up for election.

    Thanks,

This was on the local news the other night. It's out in Loxahatchee. Maybe easier to get to than Moroso/PBIR for most people.

I hope it works out since I live close by but it’s going to be a battle.

The local Karen’s got Piquet Karting who is just down the street shut down for a tenuous period there. Thankfully people rallied and somehow got the track reopened.

    Fingers crossed.

And, what's going on at the PBIR location?

Last time I went by there about a year and a half ago, the place looked abandoned.

Thought Amazon (or whoever) was going to build a giant warehouse there. Didn't look
    like that was happening.

Last news from about a year ago was that the county approved to rezone the property for warehouses. Nothing has been done since that I'm aware of.

I've heard nothing subsequent to the zoning approval either.
Last time I was out there (I've forgotten how long it has been- maybe late January?) it did indeed look pretty desolate- sad to see.
