Kinda reminds me of the story about the 8 year old girl who killed the "instructor" with the automatic weapon. Extreme stupidity on the part of an adult was involved.

    Once again how terribly sad.

When you're 18 you think you'll live forever. That, plus a 500 hp missile, can prove deadly.

IMO, the car owner, who was in the car and injured, is also responsible here.

Teen age kids have no business driving these things. They are serious machines that require advanced driving skills.
It is not only dangerous for them but also others.
Reponsible party should be held for manslaughter.

what is wrong with people let 9 years old handling a machine gun and drivers letting they kids behind a 500hp+ car?

Most adults and even some owners fit that restriction as well.

No, the adult (owner) is COMPLETELY 100% responsible for handing the keys from a 500 hp car to a teenager at 2:30 AM.

Hope the family sues the crap out of this moron....

The problem here is not an 18 year old driving a Lamborghini (I drove a Countach at 18). The problem is excessive speed, regardless of if the driver is 18 or 58.

The owner of the car needs to be held responsible because it would *appear* he condoned the excessive speed. I have a hard time picturing the kid laying down the throttle while the owner shouted, 'please slow down'.

    ^^ this.

I wonder if there was a GoPro camera on board or perhaps a smartphone video used during this "chance of a lifetime" drive for the teenager.
A video might document exactly what the owner was saying to the teenage driver that night.

A real shame. High-powered cars can be shared with others but careful instruction and safe driving locations are a must.

Its the owners car. He's gave someone the keys, 18 or 80 years old... therefore he's got this on his shoulders. Such a waste.

Reminds me of that 18 or 20 year old kid in Atlanta that got the 430. He lived, what, 48 hours after he first got it... not wise in teenage hands.

Joyrides are always a dangerous situation for many reasons. It's not the age of the driver I'm concerned with, it's the lack of skill and judgement that can be the biggest problem regardless of age. A father rented almost the identical car and rolled it, killing him or his son awhile ago. People find ways to kill themselves and others everyday in all types of cars by doing something stupid behind the wheel. Even a race car driver can lose control and crash, killing himself and passenger when using poor judgment on public roads. A certian Carrera GT comes to mind. Bottom line for me is that a licenced driver of a vehicle is responsable for their own actions/stupidity as sad as it may be.

Well here is why the age is important:experience. While there are rare exception of kids being outstanding drivers and adults being menace on the road, at 18 or 20, you dont have enough driving situations under your belt to apply good judgment, predict what can occur and handle situation with a high power car. Too much gas and your car will be a skateboard on soap... I see that with motocycle.130mph in the straight and unable to take the first sharp turn...
Speed is only a bad factor when not appropriate for the conditions for the driver's personal limits.some people are at ease a 100mph in certain conditions while other will be on edge at 80 mph. regardless, experience thus age , will be a big factor for judgment
