I like the ethos of the car and the manual. Simple and sharp. If they can keep them Mustang or Supra price competitive for young men, they’ll sell a million of them. Image Unavailable, Please Login
We actually love the yellow or the gray with blue interior. I didn't like it at first, especially the blue interior on the gray, but its growing on me. Hopefully, by early next month we will know when we can expect one.
Meanwhile, here’s the new Integra. Certainly not the Integra I remember and grew up with. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Kind of clunky looking in an Alfa SZ-ish way. No delicate hand at work on this one although I’ll admit it’s better looking than 95 % of current Japanese cars. 400hp manual ? Make mine a c6 Z51 and I’ll enjoy the targa among countless other benefits.
I like it a lot. 400hp is a great #. Plenty to have too much fun with but not too much to be constantly reigning it in. I'm sure it will be as reliable as an anvil and you won't have to deal with the condescending service advisors BMW and PCar dealers. I also like how it has touches of a 240z in the design. I hope it's cheap and they sell a ton of them.
I’m working on getting in line. I might have to wait. I can’t pay more than MSRP! About the power. I loved racing Miatas because there was only two speeds: full throttle or panic braking. When I drove Z06s at Bonderant RIP), it took a while to get comfortable with that motor. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Thanks. I didn't realize the Proto concept had R35 brakes, but looking back at pics it did. I wish Nissan had the higher trim version with a VR38DETT from the R35 with a manual trans and R35 brakes rather than the same VR30DDTT engine. I'd pay a lot for that engine in there and those brakes. Since the engines are the same with both Z trims it doesn't make much sense to go with the performance model imo. Brakes aren't much different...engine same...trans same...LSD can be added and a better one too. The guy at the end was saying things that didn't make much sense. He was surprised to see a voltmeter on the dash and said hadn't seen it before. Uh...has he ever been in a 350Z or 370Z? They've had it there for nearly 20 years so it's the same thing. It's not the most useful as the factory made in Japan Panasonic battery that comes with the car lasts 7+ years lol. Most will sell the car by then. Also he didn't seem to realize the VR30DDTT has been out for 6+ years with Infiniti and tuning is known. The engine makes a lot of power and turbo upgrades exist.
I was quoted $5,000 over by a few dealers. They still don't have any further details but that's what they're planning on.
Yikes. I don't plan on spending more than MSRP (it is an old 370Z chassis at the end of the day), but this car market is different than in 2003 when I ordered mine new at MSRP. Hopefully they allow people to order as I doubt they'll have a base model available on the lot.
One dealer quoted me $20k over for the Proto Spec trim which is the one I really want. $5k I'll probably do, $20k no thanks.
They already know they are getting one of the 240? Over 1,000 dealers in the US. Unless they are just saying in case they do get one that is the premium... I also want a Proto, but wouldn't spend a few thousand over MSRP. It's probably already $50k MSRP if the base model is $40k. I rather just get a used R35 at that point. Some 2015 Nismo versions can be had for low 100s vs 70k for a Proto from your dealer...
They don't know they're getting it, they just said if. Anyways, $20k is ridiculous for me personally so not going to happen. I tried really hard to like the R35 but it just didn't do it for me.
I contacted 5 dealers in my area (FL) today and only 3 admitted they would tack on a market premium for the new Z, but didn't say how much. The other two said they didn't know (probably too scared to say and risk losing a customer to a dealer that does less/no markup). One dealer said another customer has asked for Proto Spec as well so if there is a line for only one car then I'm out of luck.
My dealer called and said mid-February and we will know before 12/31/2021 if we will get one. Won't know what they will get yet but they will know the number of cars. As a side note, 2022 Shelby GT500 CFTP cars are almost at MSRP now. A dealer called me and offered a 2022 to me at $5k over but would probably deal. That same car was 15k - 20k over 6 months ago.
IMO, dealer mark ups won't last long. There were crazy mark ups on the new Supra and in a month they were gone. I think Nissan wants to sell a ton of these. I would like to buy a basic manual. If the dealers want over MSRP I'll wait or pass.
FWIW, These guys like how it goes: https://www.thedrive.com/news/43197/watch-the-new-nissan-z-launch-hard
I got off the phone now with Nissan North America consumer affairs and then their marketing pre-sales people after being transferred. They have no information right now on how to reserve a Z let alone the Proto Spec I want and said keep checking with dealer...
The corporate people are as clueless as the dealers. From my understanding they will be allocated and the dealers can't order them. The bigger guys might have a bit of pull but even then I doubt any dealer will get more than a Proto Spec since they're only making 240 and there's about 1,100 Nissan dealers in the US.
Got a call from my dealer this afternoon and he said that first week of January is when they are going to provide info to dealers for initial orders later that month. 3 - 4 more weeks.
I was planning on walking into a Dealer the first week of Jan so that matches up pretty well. Hopefully these idiot dealers will not be charging over MSRP but I really doubt it. I expect to have to wait a while. I'll pay sticker but not more. Its not worth it. Maybe if people just walk out they will get the message. My message will be: "when you have a base model w/ manual at MSRP give me a call".
