Just brought home a 2000 Modena 6 speed - and love it. Have 3 little questions: 1) has aftermarket Alpine sterro, the cd cassette in the trunk is NOT coming out when I press the button per the manual. 2) after a blink at startup, the red LED for the alarm arming stays red, and all doors and hatches are correctly closed. 3) my good buddy told me about the jerky/lurching that is periodic in 1st & 2nd geer - any suggestions on minimizing? Have had a couple of 355s and a BB512i - this car is the sweetest!
Item #2 is typically due to a low battery inside the alarm unit. The unit is behind the dash. There have been some threads on how to fix it yourself but I ended up having the dealer do it on mine back when I owned a 360. You get to the unit from inside the front trunk. There is a waterproof sealed cover you need to go through. Dealer has a kit that replaces that cover, which is why I ended up using them. The alarm unit is sealed from the alarm factory (even though it has a battery in it that goes dead - yikes!). Dealer replaces whole unit, not the battery - somewhat costly. There is an fchat thread on how to open the sealed unit and just replace the battery. Do a search, should be easy to find. Item #3. I assume you have the manual stick-shift and not the F1. Both technically are 6-speeds but most people use that term for the manual trans. Jerky shifting with the manual is often due to not having the car warmed up yet. Other issue may be not enough revs (higher RPM) before letting out the clutch. My warm up procedure is to first let the car idle in the driveway until the water temp gauge moves off of zero degrees. Then drive the car using low RPM up-shifts (4000 - 4200 RPM) until the oil temp gauge moves off of zero. Then you can shift at higher RPMs, like 7500. Typically once the oil temp gauge moves off of zero, the trans is warmed up also. Good luck. Enjoy the car. Post some pics. What color is it?
1 - Not sure. 2 - Could also be that the siren is out (mine was and caused same light). I agree - Dealer Time. 3 - I think this is about throttle application. I agree with last post that it is not enough throttle, I don't think it's about warm up. When I had a six speed, I found that I experienced this problem initially and as I became used to the car it diminished. Put some miles on it and all will be good, I am sure. Note: It happens in the F1 cars as well.
I agree, I think it was my siren and not the actual alarm unit, now that it was mentioned in the previous post. I wanted to fix it myself and I had one of the mechanics down at the dealer show me (on someone else's 360) how to get to the back of the dash. Yikes. Even after being walked through each step visually, I bagged it and had the dealer do it. I'm not very mechanical, so you may find it easier than I did. I found one of those old threads on fixing the red alarm light always being on: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=111884
As far as buying extra things for your 360, have you seen this carbon fiber key? http://www.ferraricarbon.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=66 The silver key that comes with the 360 typically has some of the silver paint come off over time. Some people paint them red, which looks cool. Do a search and you'll find 360 threads on painting the keys. But a carbon fiber key for under $250 dollars looks like an interesting idea to me. I have no affiliation with the ad or vendor of the carbon fiber key, but thought you might be interested. Image Unavailable, Please Login
You guys are great with the advice: drive more miles and get the RPM's up! On the alarm, I'll head for the dealer. It is indeed a 6 spd stick - titanium and bordeaux. Pics to come. Thanks again...
Congratulations on the car.. and welcome. I had the same problem on my 360 when I purchased it (the red LED). Here's a thread on it: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=111884 The jerky thing is common among new 360 owners in 1st gear when you start up. Give it a month or so and you'll get used to driving the car; it will tend to naturally go away. It's just that the accelerator is very touchy and once the car bucks once, it starts to setup a sort of back and forth oscillation (i.e. your foot moves, the car lurches, this causes your foot to move, which causes the car to lurch again, etc.). The first few weeks I had my 360 I had a heck of a time with it. When it would happen, I would quickly shift into 2nd gear. Sometimes adjusting your seat can help a little bit. But like I say, it's very common when you first start driving the 360. You'll get used to it and it will go away after a month or so of driving. Let's see pics of the car. Ray BTW, nice choice on the 6 speed - I love mine.
Nice! I have a titanium 6 speed with all black interior. Your car sounds like the one which was for sale at GP Imports? Ray
The red light on is for sure the alarm, buy it from Daniel at Ricambi and save yourself the dealer mark up! I had mine replaced a few months ago. Post some pics or it never happened!!!! Congrats!! Robert
Congrats on a great car! No need to let the dealer rip I mean sell you a new alarm. Just order the siren from Ricambi and install yourself. I had it done in less than an hour! The red light will then go out!
Just attended a Ferrari show this weekend and I had the same question. The person I spoke to recommended changing the tranny fluid with a product called Red Line. He says you can't get it everywhere, but your Ferrari dealer or a Ferrari shop should have it. If you do this, let me know as I share the same problem with my manual 6 speed.
I have the red light problem on my 2000 360 Modena too. Thanks for the good advice. The "fly-by-wire" throttle is very sensitive and takes getting used to in first gear. I have had mine for a month and it's smoothed out, or I should say that I have smoothed out. Going in for an oil change tomorrow; I'll see what my shop says about the alarm light.
If it is the 360 from GP Imports I drove that car and did not notice any shifting issues from 1st to 2nd. The car was warm when I drove it. If you did buy it congratulations, great car, you beat me to it. David
