After buying my GTS, one of the first things I wanted to do was replace all of the suspension bushings. I thought, that shouldn't be too expensive. I would start with the front end first. I wanted every bushing removed and replaced with new. Including the shock bushings, tower link bushings, and a front end alignment when it was done. I shopped around and the lowest estimate I got was right around $1400.00 parts & labor. ACHTER LEBER!! (ooops sorry thats from the Porsche days), I mean MAMA MIA!! I thought crap, if the rear is anywhere near the same, that means like $2800.00. Just for bushings? Down but not out, I decided to review the FChat threads on this subject. After all, I read numerous threads about guys doing stuff on their cars with no problems. Even Tippy the cat, (one of my biggest inspirations), did not fear helping out on 350HPMondials ride. So what the hell? Here it goes. It took me two days but I replaced every bushing on the front of the car. When I was done it drove straight. Turned right and left and the wheels didn't even fall off. I used all the great tips and "watch out for's" from the contributing FC members. Here's how it turned out:
Entire front end bushing kit: $400.00
Press out old fossilized bushings, insert new ones: 1 30 pack case of Coors Light. ($22.00)
    Front end alignment: $89.00
    Total: $511.00
Savings due to FC: $900.00! THANK YOU F CHATTERS!

Next week I am going to start on the rear. By the way, does anyone know the torque specs for the CV bolts?

Not to be picky, but it's "Ach, du lieber Got!", but that was the Porsche days. Ain't it grand when you can do this yourself? I agree whole heartedly with "Rifledriver", "you too can be an expert", or at least have a little pride in doing something yourself. People are so amazed when I say I work on it myself.

    Better buy TWO 30 packs!

Yea I know. I can speak it, I just can't spell it. 90% of my family live in Germany. I was born in the US. My Grandmother used to always say that phrase when something shocked or surprised her. I also forgot to put the "Got" on the end. Thanks for the correct spelling though.

Another "gray market" baby, huh? I met my wife in Germany and that's when I got interested in all the cars that didn't pass the TUV (their regulating agency). I wanted to start importing these cars because they were so cheap but couldn't get anyone I knew to believe the theory. My last attempt was to import a 1960 MB 190SL I could purchase for $1000. My father-in-law told me not to but this piece of junk. After that, I gave up.
Never thought of trying Ferrari's but I saw a few back then. Who knows how it really would have turned out.

Memories are by their nature, sweet.

And it is my wife that actually corrected you (correctly). Mein deutsche ist beschissen, auch! But I'm going to take up Italian, now.
