What makes the 288GTO acceptable to me is that it was, I believe, intended for homologation in a class of racing (though it never materialized), as was the original. It did, however, open the door to a naming trend that smacks of blatant marketing. Nicknames have been used for Ferrari models in the past--Tour de France, Mexico, Daytona, California, Lusso, Dino--but had a significance for the model named that was topical.

So much information.. Thanks to all for filling me in. One more question. I live in Chino Hills as you can tell. I just found out a gentleman who lives down the street just brought home a brand new F-430 in blue. Is this anybody on here. Would love to see it close up.

Steve - Are you excluding the 250 GTO from the category of road cars? I believe it was designed by Bizzarrini.

Yes, the 250GTO wasn't really intended as a road car.

Try posting this question in the California section. Maybe they have a spotter's thread to list the car you mention. It is unlikely that that particular car owner would be found reading this thread.

IIRC the Pontiac GTO is a rebadged Holden and imported from OZ.

Oh yes, and "flame war" is when someone decides to puff up his own ego by putting down another poster, and then a snippy response serves to escalate hostilities. ;)

We all fall into that one, once in a while.

    john is correct.
    i'm not a ferrari owner.
i bet i know even less about ferraris than you do, too.

... but here's what you can find by simply typing in
    "ferrari names" on google.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari

    so your choice.
ignore my sarcasm and spend some time reading
my link and what other members wrote here.
or, take it seriously and start whining and moaning
    about me being "*******"...

    of course,
you can always write me a nice msg.
    like this retarded kid did-

...Relevance? At the very least, my profile is truthful and honest.

Not at all when it is incorrect, as it all too often is.

Wikipedia, for all its bluster, is almost completely unvetted.

You have better odds of finding verity amongst the drunks in any random pub.
