First, do you live near the car? If yes, of course you need to spend some driving it and checking it out, but far more important is to bring it to a Ferrari Dealer or Ferrari Certified mechanic and have the PPI (safety inspection) done. This is an extensive set of checks to make sure the car is in sound mechanical shape.

If you don't live near the car, post a request in the F-Chat region nearest the car and see if someone there can do a quick once-over. Seeing it pictures and seeing it in person are two completely different things. Never trust pictures alone.

If the car looks good to the F-Chat person or if you can't find anyone to check it out and you're really serious about the car, put a hold on the car, jump on a plane and fly out to see it. Remember, you're talking about buying a $130K+ car. It's worth it a Southwest plane ticket. Before you travel, make arrangements to have the PPI done while you're there so you can deal with anything the shop might find in person. If they find nothing, you can hammer out the deal in person.

The car looks nice, so good luck.

    Frank

The car "looks" very nice. I wish I could comment on the price, but without knowing the service records, I'd be blowing smoke at you. If all service is up to date and nothing pending (no clutch or belt job) it's a pretty good price.

Be careful, some will tell you it's worth $110 or so. I call BS on that. Nice cars are worth their money, if you don't buy it, someone else will. Setting eyes on the car is oh so important. It is low mileage. I'm sure there's someone on Fchat that can eye-ball it for you==before sending it into a PPI.

My .02, for what it's worth.

You guys are great on this forum! I'm almost ready to make the big purchase and join all you owners so I know what you guys are talking about. I'm waiting to see how the economy shakes out and where F prices are heading, but I'm hoping to get a 360 F1 coupe (red or black) by March - my budget is around 130-150K. Thanks again.

I have purchased a number of Ferrari's from different sources. The best I've dealt with is Jim Lyons in San Diego http://www.sportscarcompany.com. Call Jim and tell him what your looking for. He will find it for a great price. I purchased my 360 from Jim well below what others is SOCAL where charging.

Geez guys. Reminds me when I was in high school, I told my friends I might ask out that new chick. Next thing I know, they were already all over her.

Ferrari Sponsors are good start! I have not one but 2 360's that fit your bill...with full service histories, and no stories!

So I'm making my rounds around San Diego today stopping in all the usual Ferrari haunts. When I stopped by Jim's place I mentioned that I needed a toolkit for my 348. Out from behind the desk comes a complete kit and I'm off like a shot. :). That doesn't happen every day.

To all you crooks on eBay who were trying to rob me blind for one of these. I just got one for the cost of a steak dinner.

Ferrari Dealers dont do PPI, Pre Purchase Inspections any more. Find Indipendant Ferrari Service shop. They can make arangements to P/u and do PPI.
Lots of service shops in newport where vehicle is located. runs about $700. Flat p/u and PPI.

    Good luck!
