I'M THE PROUD AND LUCKY NEW OWNER OF A '76 308 GTB. It looks like the rear bonnet on this car can be pretty easily removed vis-à-vis a telescoping strut system of sorts. I've enclosed a picture. Is this correct? Any pearls of wisdom? thanx steve

    Lucky indeed!

It's not telescoping, but rather a quick release (both sides) that allows you to slide the engine cover off. I believe this was only used on the vetroresina cars.

There are two wires that are attached to that mechanism that run along the inside of the deck lid exiting on both sides closer to the rear of the car. If you pull these wires, it will release the rear deck lid for removal.

I don't recall seeing them, but let me look tomorrow. seeing no obvious wires on the bonnet, begs this question: how do the license plate lights get their power/ground?? (Vetroresina means you can't ground to body) thanx for the info. steve

    Welcome Steve!

The lights are powered through the 2 cover latches - very elegant solution

I have a similar car, will send photos that may help when I get back to the car

    Vetroresina means fibreglass/glass fibre/not metal.

If you remove the bonnet, have a person on each side…it’s not heavy but it’s large. When it’s off, lube the cable pulls and the latch mechanism on each “doggy dick” (no kidding, that’s what my GF called them) before they are reinserted into their sockets. Those little latch pins were really tight on mine after however many years so the pull required on the cables to release them was a bit unnerving.

What's with you Houstonians and jalapenos??? My Brit friend from Houston is obsessed by them and she pronounces the word with the emphasis on the first syllable.
