Newbie question of the day.....

Yup, also had the wing mirror control knob that broke the first week that I owned mine. Partly because I turned the exterior mirrors in each time I parked just like I did with my Mercedes. Didn’t realize the brittleness of the control knob and quickly learned new respect and to be “gentle”. Also had a rude introduction to “Ferrari tax” since you had to replace the whole control unit for $1800 not just the 50 cent knob that broke off.

Also, in the first month that I owned my car the battery died and I had to figure out how to get into the car and find out where the trunk release was. Not as bad as 599 GTO’s issue, but I definitely sympathize.

But still love the car, you just have to be aware of the issues and treat it with respect.

 

Thanks Ron! I am glad you sympathize! So far I haven’t bothered to replace the wing mirror/window buttons and am trying to make do. Incidentally, without hijacking this thread, I am going to be buying a new battery. I am tempted by the Bosch S5 AGM 85v. Does anyone have any experience with this battery or alternative recommendations? Thanks guys

 

As would happen, I am actually at an event hosted by my Ferrari mechanic. I asked him about the battery. He said that the Bosch AGM is a good one or the interstate AGM. He likes both.

You never told me this 360 Marnix! You had originall recommenced the S5. I am planning to go for the Bosch Start-Stop AGM 12V 105Ah S5A15 0092S5A150 but have no way of checking if it’s compatible. Can you help? Many thanks!

599 GTO, to further hijack this thread, since you mentioned you are in Europe, I wanted to let you know that I actually found a used part from Scuderia Car Parts in the UK for the exterior mirror adjuster. It was “cheap” at $700 US where the new part was $1800. If you need to proceed and get one at some point, it is called a “dash plate”, Ferrari part number 191969.

As I mentioned you cannot buy just the knob that broke. So you have to buy the whole dash plate which includes the switch for the headlights as well as the exterior mirror adjuster switch. Maybe wait until the headlight switch breaks too!

I am sure I will bring myself to pay for it one day... as you realize, I just feel so aggrieved paying that amount for a fiddly little piece of broken plastic! The price of membership I guess! Have owned 5 Porsche’s with LEATHER dashes. Yes that’s right, they do come with leather dashes. None have shrunk to the point of separating from the panel.
What’s it like to be so incredibly knowledgeable?

 

On many cars, the leather on the dashboard and doors did never seen any cow. Plastic will not shrink.

 

I found 4 options. S4 and S5. The S5 is the best option for cars that are not being used every day and the S5 range have a longer life cycle. So I recomend the S5.

The S5 A13 (12v/95ah/850) is option 1. Sizes are 353x175x190mm

Option 2 is
S5 A15 (12v/105ah/950a) Sizes are 394/175/190mm.

To be 100% sure I have to measure my battery. I however think both will fit.

Just checked, you should have the S5 A13. A battery wider as 35cm probably will not fit.
