New to the forum and don't even own a 458 but hoping someone can figure out what I'm looking for. I was driving the other day and saw a red 458 going the opposite direction of me. It was slowing down from what seemed like fairly high speed. Upon downshifting it made the most amazing sexy and beastly sound I have heard from any car and was wondering if anyone can tell me what the best sounding exhaust is on the 458. I know it's subjective but the popping and crackle from the exhaust was out of this world. anyone care to take a shot at guessing what exhaust it may have been? I highly doubt it was stock as my brother has one and it sounds nothing like that one did.

    Hi,

of course cannot tell for sure, but popping and crackling when slowing down reminds more of ECU calibration than exhaust hardware.
OEM fueling map before 2012 (and possibly non-Ferrari re-flashes) had that, updated OEM map unfortunately doesn't. Mine is a 2012 and unfortunately it doesn't pop/crackle, but also older cars get automatic re-map when officially serviced (unless you oppose to it).
If that pops/crackles are the goal (and I understand that!) I'd better start from ECU calibration, than exhaust. Mind you: this may be dangerous and hurt the engine!
But this has been talked many times on the forum, and I'm not the expert on this!

    I hope it helps, anyway.

Try downshifting while braking, that would release the gunshot sounds.
