My old GT4 with synthetic gear oil shifts smoothly into 2nd when cold. My 328 refuses to do that. I can start in 2nd, but not shift into 2nd. I just live with it. My 355 with shockproof gear oil shifts into 2nd, with a little notch, Buttery smooth when hot.
