Adrian Newey has expressed his fear that should the FIA not allow Renault to play catch-up on the power front after paying a heavy price for adhering more strictly to the engine freeze regulations than its direct rivals, it may well pull out of F1 – as he all-but confirmed that Red Bull Racing will extend its partnership with the French manufacturer into 2011. http://bit.ly/9dttFV

I'm still catching my breath from it! ;)

Is this some sort of ploy by Red Bull now that they aren't winning every race?

LOLOL! Their engines power the pair of cars that has been most consistently at the front all year. Don't f**kin cry to me that your engine is at a disadvantage, its your CHASSIS that sucks.

I think you'll find the chassis is probably the best on the grid, especially with Newey designing it I wouldn't doubt it.

Their engines are probably down on power/outright performance compared to the rest, so surely the chassis would have to be the best for them to be consistently at the front, no?

That said, whining and *****ing about it won't get them anywhere. I think they need to have a word with Vettel, because for the second year in a row he's lost the plot.

My bad, I read it as Renault doing the complaining, not Red Bull, skipped right over Newey's name.

I still don't see where they have a valid complaint re: the engines. Wasn't Renault allowed by the FIA to make changes to their engine earlier this year?

Thing is, with that engine's fuel consumption, a Renault powerd car can start a race with 40 pound less fuel.

    This part made Me laugh:

“Where shall we go?” the Englishman mused in an interview with German publication Sport Bild. “McLaren has stopped us from getting the Mercedes engine, so there's only Ferrari – but we ask ourselves, 'if we beat them, will we still have the same specification as the Ferrari team?'

What makes him think he'd have the same specification as the Ferrari team in the first place? :p

(I am of course joking, but many on here will argue that Ferrari would hamper any other team using their engines and do not supply the exact same engines as they use themselves!).

Right on Brian. Seems like they came pretty close last year to going with Cosworth.

It's not really the engine freeze that is the problem, but the fact that limiting the number of engines per season could become a determining factor in the outcome of the WDC.

A driver could win or loose the championship just because of being penalised for past engine failures.

By the look of it, Ferrari drivers have only ONE engine left each to the end of the season!

McLaren drivers 2 each left, as has Vettel.

But Webber has still 3 engines to play before the last GP!!

Drivers forced to change engine and go beyond their allocation, will be penalised by loosing 10 places on the starting grid.

That system doesn't give much chances for Alonso to clinch the title, but seems to favour Webber, no?

Yes that, and a DNF from any of the 5 in contention will rule them out.

Toyota never won a world championship. I think people might notice Renault leaving... although it wouldn't have the same sort of impact as losing Ferrari or McLaren.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

RBR should just use Toyota engines. Seems like that'd work really well for them.

E.g. Mad Max danced with glee that another "uppity" manufacturer left, leaving only the little fishes the FIA can push around.

Certainly there are those fans who only look at the drivers, just as there are those "race fans" who only watch for crashes.

But when the "pinnacle of motorsports" is driving away manufacturers, "Danger Will Robinson".

How about an open wheel racing series using spec engines in a standardized chassis? It could have a single tire manufacturer, and mandate both hard and soft compound slicks.
We could call it "Indycar".

But Jaguar, Honda, Toyota, and BMW didn't threaten to leave, they just left.
Renault is just complaining that they're not winning.

Motor racing isn't a priority for car manufactureres, regardless of what the fans believe.

Newey's statement have been wrongly interpreted, I think.

In the end, Renault's CEO Carlos Ghosn will have the last word regarding future participation, and he is no fan of F1 ...

If you think Toyota, Honda and BMW leaving, over the so-called freeze rules (frozen for some, thawed for others) was good for the sport...

    Then you'll love NASCAR.
