After looking at a number of 550's I chose a silver/ navy blue from Kachel Motors in Lawrence Ma. The tranaction went smoothly and I want to thank Jason, Tim, and Evans. It was a pleasure to deal with them and I highly recommend Kachel Motors.
I received her yesterday evening and today registered and got a plate. Tomorrow will be driving day.
I've learned a lot here on Fchat and look forward to learning more.
I do have one question which I'm a little embarassed to ask. What is the proper sequence of starting a 550 with respect to key, parking brake, fob button, clutch? Also when I stop for fuel, can I just leave the key in, go pump the gas and get in the car and crank it? Don't laugh. The last Fcar I had was 40 years ago and as I remember there weren't any interlocks.
If I can figure out how to post some pics, I'll post some next.

    congrats !

You are going to enjoy every mile...

After 30 seconds the car will lock up... so push the fob button and you hear two beeps, then start it.

    cheers,

I never leave keys in the car unless I also leave a window all the way down. Too many things happen "automagically" these days.

Beautiful car - I've always liked navy interiors.

Congrats. I drove my 456M 250 miles the first day, and my cheeks hurt from smiling so much. It's an occupational hazard.

Thanks Barry and everyone. Saturday I drove to Pocono Sports Cars where Jim Mcgee inspected it and put on the Pa sticker. I'm fortunate to be only 30 miles away from a top notch shop. He went over the car upside down and sideways and did not find anything wrong with her.
Yesterday my wife and I took a drive On I84 and some back roads and again no problems and didn't expect any.
I wanted to drive it to work today , but instead had to transport about 3000 pounds of castings in my Ford Dually so that was out. (The 550 trunk just isn't big enough!!!)

You are gonna have a great time with the car!

I turn the key to the first position, wait for four beeps that says everything is ok (or a warning light) and then put my foot on the clutch and start the car. Foot on the clutch I was told reduces wear and tear on the starting equipment (alternator and stuff but I don't know).

FWIW, this is really tough on the crank main bearings because you're "thrusting" the crank forward. If the bearings happen to be dry too (long interval between starts) this will accelerate their wear.

Best way is to start it in neutral with your foot "off" the clutch.

I have driven clutches since I was 16, doesn't the clutch need to be engaged to start the car? I have always put the gear in "n" and then clutch in, then turn the key....educate me here, or is this simply a F car thing? dogdoc

^ John means the axial crankshaft bearings that take up the load of the thrust bearing on the clutch; indeed it is a little easier on starter and battery to start with the clutch in in very cold weather, as it lowers drag and eases starting; I can see the point on the axial bearings too though.
That said, I have yet to see worn axial bearings in an engine.

I now disconnect those clutch pedal switches on any 3 pedal cars that I own. It's another "safety" device that, IMO, does more damage than good. A number of us who experienced crank walk on other cars with heavy performance clutches started disabling these clutch switches years ago, and now only start the cars in neutral without touching the clutch.

I also take the car out of gear at stoplights and take my foot off the clutch. It only takes maybe a second or so to get the car back in gear and get it moving, and this too, I think, is better for the machinery than sitting there for 5 minutes with the clutch disengaged, and the crank trying to thrust forward.

To me, the clutch is only to get the car launched and to ease the process of shifting gears - I try not to use it for anything else.

LolaF1, I'm in the Poconos about 130 miles away and an easy drive down the turnpike so don't be surprised if I show up sometime. I'm also planning Reading in May.

Cribbj, You made me think about the clutch switch so I just came in from the garage and guess what,,, I also have no interlock. One more thing to smile about. I agree with your driving technique and do the same.

Very common problem in cars that use heavy pressure plates. My "other" hotrod is currently sitting in the shop with a case of crank walk. It became so bad in the last stages before parking it, that when I would pull up to a stop light and pressed the clutch pedal, it would thrust the crank forward and put enough load on it that the engine would die. If I took it out of gear and coasted to the stop light, there was no problem. Light changed, pushed in the clutch and the engine died. I had to go through some interesting gymnastics to get the car rolling each time!

Google "crank walk" and you'll find lots of examples.

This is the color I would get. Don't know why but silver seems to be the best 550 color...just like red seems best for the Enzo. Just my opinion.

Congrats and enjoy the heck out of her.

BTW, a car like this deserves a nickname. Soon as I saw it I thought Bella! That's as good a name as any.
