Once I got sorted out after driving around and around Newport Beach, Irving, Humtington Beach, Beverly Hills, etc., I got pointed north on I5 about 11:00PM Wed., Sept.13th/06. With fuel stops, Taco Bells, Mountain Dew, grabbing sleep her and there and showers; thirty-six hours later I am home. The '78 Ferrari 308 GTS was poetry in motion. I took notes of the sights, sounds and meaningful life reflections in my mind. I could post if there is any interest, but, it might come off a little long. The car is more than was expected. The oil pressure, coolant temperarure, braking and cockpit controls are dead on. Used 1 qrt. of Mobile 1 Synthetic 15-50 in 1,600+ miles. The sound of the 4 Weber carbs and the Tubi exhaust bouncing off the canyon walls when I got further north into the mountain areas was a rush!!!!!! The Ferrari attracted BMW's, Audi's, Porscha's and a cool Austin Mini Cooper as we played cat and mouse for mile after mile. Truely an old hot rodders delight:) Jim

Oh you definitely have to post your experience. The longer the better.
Don't you wish you had more time to take more of a leisurely trip, to be able to take some side roads just for the fun of it.

Glad to hear you made it back home without any incidents.

Yes Trieu, I would have, I should have taken more time to travel the sights of California, Oregon and Washington on my trip back home to BC. Once I got the fluids changed I wanted to get home without any trouble. I was focused for the noise of ANYTHING that sounded strange or out of sorts. It was hot going through California but didn't dare turn on the A/C for fear I might throw a belt. I kept my focus on the temp gauge for miles, but, the temp gauge never got above 180o in the hot valley or climbing fast up in the mountains. The oil pressure gauge read 120 to 130 and the trans. oil temp gauge ran 170o to 175o the whole way. Hey, even the clock works! What doesn't work: I had to use the manual window crank tool on the right window to get it to fully close, the LR marker light bulb was out and the removable top storage bag is missing. If anyone has access to one of these removable top storage bags I would welcome being able to purchase it.

For those that are interested, I changes the engine, transmission and differential fluids with a Purolator L30001 filter, Mobile I synthetic 15/50 engine oil, and I used SWEPCO 201 80w90 ISO 150 Multi-Purpose Gear Lube in the transmission and differential. The transmission shifted smooth in 1st and 2nd gear. Now that I am home, the transmission is shifting very smoothly even when cold

The car has an electronic ignition system, 16" wheels, four Weber carbs and a Tubi stainless exhaust which sounded like the famous Mormon Tabrinacle Choir Organ. The sound was fantastic when all eight horses were pulling.

I wrote down my impressions and thoughts as I travelled north. The question for me is where would it be appropriate for me to post them? I suspect there may be folk on forums besides the 308/328 group that would find it worth reading. Hopefully it will add some confidence to the list when it comes to considering a long run. The 308GTS ran beautifully! I added 1/2 qt. of oil during two of my stops for fuel. Sooooo 1 qt. of oil for 1,600+ miles at a pretty steady 75 - 80 mph with a few bursts up to 120 mph,...(to avoid a Porsche or BMW crowding my lane to take a closer look) seems reasonable.

PS. The A/C does work after all:)

Glad to be home safely. Jim

That's awesome to hear. These cars are really dependable - I've taken both of my cars up to San Fran/Bay Area, and didn't have any problems. I know it's not as long as all the way up to Canada, but given the opportunity, I'm sure it would do just fine. Actually, this time last year, I was contemplating a road trip myself up to Banff to catch the scenery & foliage.

Definitely post your impressions & notes under the General Discussion section because I know many will enjoy it.

Here's a "Road trip" thread that was voted the #1 thread of the month a while back. Too bad the pictures are missing, but I think you enjoy it still.

Lady Valeria and I had a HUGE adventure buying our 308GTB....you should post all the pics and thoughts of the trip..

Show others what it's like to 'throw caution to the wind, and drive home.."

Glad to hear you made it! Driving with a shapely copiloti is even MORE fun!
You need one to run four days as we did....

Congrats..know exactly what you mean on the "listening for strange noises" mindset, but after awhile you relax.....
