Hi all, Help me pick my Next Car? 1) Ferrari 512 bbi, (I just want one. ) 2) Tesla Plaid, I live in California. ( oops) 3) New Corvette (Mid Engine) thanks in advance from anyone with experience. ciao my Ferrari brothers. Eduardo
Quite the diverse set of choices- my .02 FWIW 1) Amazing classic Ferrari- Beautiful- Hard to find- expensive to maintain- not exactly a daily driver- Very expensive to purchase 2) Fast as stink- ugly- EV (all the pros and cons)- new- its a Tesla- stupid name- Did I mention its an EV 3) Amazing bang for the buck- dependable- easy to service/maintain- getting common- Baby 458 for half the cost- It's a Chevy- It's a Corvette They really are completely different cars and completely different purchase and ownership scenarios and experiences.
512, its a Ferrari so why not. Plaid, it may be fast now, but I feel like in two or so years those numbers will be normal, somewhat. Vette, only the Z06. Stingray is losing its attractiveness and appeal, the Z06 is and always will perform well with that NA V8. Looks like a totally different car in person, too. Interior quality is solid as well, at least in the press car.
If you even think about a Tesla as an alternative to a BB, I don't think that the BB is for you. Not meant as an offence - but just not sure you will really be happy with it and appreciate a 35 years old Ferrari the way others would do. Based on your list, I have the impression you are mainly looking for measurable driving performance, no matter how it is delivered. Now every serious modern sports sedan will give you more of that than the BB - but never match that one's emotional experience (nor will the Tesla or a new Vette).
Based on list Tesla. With a Tesla you’ll say to your friends I could’ve bought a Ferrari. If you buy the 512 you will say to your friends I should’ve bought a plaid. The 512 is about the experience and there’s nothing easy about it. Just a thought. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
These are all so different - honestly, my choice would be based on what else is in the garage or what I was planning to get rid of to limit redundancy
Good morning my Ferrari friends. 3500gt, 355, Krash, Thomas, Scott and 550. Thanks for the feedback. I have room for one more car, thus, I am shopping now. 512 bbi keep showing up on the market. They seem undervalued, this, I believe now is the time to buy one. The Tesla is a 100% practical car, not exciting at all. If I buy one it will be practical. ( yawn) Corvette is Not practical. A few of my friends have them. They never break down. just going to look and try to have an open mind.
I think you have them ordered correctly, pick up a depreciated but low mile vette in a few years. I don't trust used teslas so get that after the highest priority which is of course the 512 bbi
What else is in your garage? What are you going to use it for? If its your only car, the Tesla is the obvious choice. If you already have a daily driver, then get the Ferrari. If you want something for the track get the vette (although there are much better choices if that's the case)
Thanks Paul, Jack and Tony. (smile) I appreciate your feedback. 512bbi are only $ 300k,,,? super undervalued. ,,,! I would have guessed $ 500k minimum. aaaa shopping is fun. ciao my Ferrari brothers, Eduardo
unfortunately you are a bit late--over the winter there were a few nice examples for $250k! they seem to have shot up over the past few months. i was in the market last year for one but chickened out on the maintenance!
hello Sir Tony, I am in awe of a 512 bbi, thus I want one. Is the CIS injection a nightmare,,? mmmmm maybe, but once it is set, the Bosch CIS injection is reliable. ( but, be sure to install a pair of a/f meters. ( wink) there is a white 512bbi in the current LA car crowd. ( mmmmmmm pretty car.)
I'm not sure I know enough to comment on the injection--but if you are in LA I'd reach out to Donnie Callaway (https://www.instagram.com/ferrari_1966/?hl=en) To me its the ultimate Ferrari--mid engine, V12, manual, no electronic nannies, enough power to have fun, AND Sammy Hagar drove his own in the "I can't drive 55" music video If they are still in the current price range in 2025 I will be buying one then
https://www.dupontregistry.com/autos/listing/1983/ferrari/512--bbi/2240098 Purchase cost around $300K - Maintenance/parts/niggles etc. will have you at around $500K total ownership cost - But my gosh what a great use of $500K As Ferris B would say - "if you have the means I highly recommend picking one up"
Seems to me if you answer the following you will know which How many miles a year Will you go shopping with it .. run errands etc ..take out to dinner A possible investment or not How much you are willing to pay for maintenance to sort it out Sent from my moto g power using Tapatalk
The C8 Corvette will be the best combination of everything. Driving pleasure, everyday usability, reliability, value. Having all that power on tap, and not having to pay for gas (especially now) is a huge benefit to the Tesla, that being said...the current model generation will be getting a refresh, sometime soon. It's a berlinetta boxer, why are you even considering the others!
I don't know what #2 is and I also live in CA. No, don't explain it to me. I refuse. what is your budget and what are your current car(s)?
Thanks all for more feedback, hey ILoveGT, we live in car hell. But, the weather is perfect. 68 degrees today, sunny ,, ( a California standard day ) Newsom is pure car hh8r. 512 bbi are just the classiest of that design era. Included in that era was the The Lamborghini Contach. It is just not a practical car to drive anywhere.
The BB512 is a car I very much intend to own at some point. At 6’3 I don’t think I will fit in it and it’ll largely be garage porn for me. That’s ok, it’s a stunning car! So my biased vote is for a BB512.
