You're putting one in the racing version of the P4/5, then, I guess?

I think I would take the latest GT2 RS over the 918.

I have to agree with this. I know they're getting better and better, but there's nothing especially Italian or exotic about all this technology.

It's all pretty much ugly and disposable these days, IMHO.

Per current Marketing Strategy, it could be a Prius with a Horsey on the nose for only $600K.

How's that KERS 599 sound now?

As much as I hate it as well it looks like it's the only way we can have these types of cars in the future. You can be a luddite or you can accept what is what. I wouldn't say the 458 Italia doesn't stir the soul, it certainly doesn't look as good as a 212 Export or a 250 Lusso but it does get the blood flowing.

its a necessary next step for the supercar or else it will become extinct. only problem is who wants to spend $1m for a 1st gen hybrid f70. im sure it will be awesome once the bugs are worked out after 10 yrs development though

Not for the 24 Hours of Nurburgring in 2011 but we're investagating putting a KERS system in for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2012 if they give us an entry as an EXP1 in an EVO version of P 4/5 C.

The KERS system as used in the Porsche GT3 RS whould in no way effect the engine sound.
The engine remains as is. The KERS simply captures braking energy, stores it and enables the driver to call it up for a boost via electric motors on the front wheels. Push to Pass or to pull you out of a turn harder using the front wheels to power away from the apex. It also gives you longer range, which in a 24 Hour race matters as the Diesel cars have shown.

KERS is Kinetic Energy Recapture System. The Porsche system is a Williams system that uses a flywheel. Street cars will likely use a system that stores the captured energy in batteries.

Like it or not this is where the cutting edge of technology is these days. Isn't that where Ferrari belongs?

Exactly right, it is what any manufacturer does.

Other than than that how could Ferrari sell cars if they aren't striving towards better fuel economy and emissions? With the Euro 5 regulations coming out they wouldn't be allowed to be selling cars. Yes, it is as someone on this forum put it, "Eco-nazism," but that's something we have to deal with.

    Hybrids are so so

I want to see Audi, MB, or somebody stuff a big honking Diesel in a sportscar with massive torque

VW may have the Bluesport diesel but thats just an entry level sportscar

Toyota builds more cars in 3 days than Ferrari builds in one year. It's not Ferraris destroying planet Earth. Low volume manufacturers should be exempt.

But they aren't and these systems will make them accelerate faster, go through corners faster, and go longer between pit stops.

No matter what any of us think "should be" Hybrid Ferrari Supercars are coming as per Luca.

Yes, I know. It still makes me sad - as do the automatic transmissions and the eventual loss of the 12-cylinder engines.

That's why I'm not selling any of my older cars.

(Hybrids are also better brake wise as brakes stay cooler)

    :)

It's still easier to find a Duesenberg clutch than Enzo wheel bearings. (Costs less too)

I think the technology can be used in a way to increase the driving pleasure but I do question weight and complexity issues. Personally I think a lot is going to change with this legislation and sanity will hopefully prevail.
