Interesting...many rumors have been posted, but this confirms it. Should be interesting to see how much power they can get out of a Twin Turbo V8 rather than the V12. Is Ferrari going to revert back to putting spoilers on their "super" Ferraris too? -G.B.
Awesome. A TT V8 just like the F40 and 288 GTO. Question is, well it look as good as either of those....doubtful.
I dont know, if the 458 and 599 are any indication of what to go by, I think this new car is really going to be something special.
what is interesting with V8 TT is that you can increase "easily" the output power: F40, 2.85 liters engine for 478 HP, i.e 167 HP per liter, that means 167 x 4.5 liters, roughtly 700 HP possible today (plus direct injection,...), but, F40 LM, 3 liters average engine for 760 HP, i.e 253 HP per liter, that means 253 x 4.5 liters, roughtly 1138 HP possible! interresting
disappointing. Still going to be a great car but for the price tag this car will inevitably carry, a more exotic motor is to be expected. TT V10 or V12 would have been more fitting.
I disagree, I think the TT V8 is very fitting for a super Ferrari. I also think that the motor will be extremely exotic. Definitely not something like a Dodge or Ford V8.
even mac laren, coming back producing sports cars, is pushing for light engine, V8 TT for size optimization and chassis development and balance, so if you well remember the F40 experience, V8 TT is not stupid, even compared toV10 or V12 (heavy and too large)
Hey, I wouldn't mind a V8 TT...the F40 to this day is an amazing car. Luckily they aren't going "green" with the next gen. enzo after all, who would want to buy a 4 cylinder hybrid ferrari lol
Even more so if you go by the high boost setting of over 900 HP they got from not even 3.0L, as they were technically a 2.9L. Amazing power....
V8TT Pros: -Lighter weight -Better fuel economy -Feeling of "boost" V8TT Cons: - No more instant power throttle response - Muted sound - Less low rpm power - 4 less cylinders - Lower redline? - Less reliable?
Even though I like the idea of a TT V8, I was hoping for a V12 that would sound like the 599 GTO. I'm curious to see, or hear rather, what this engine sounds like. -G.B.
With the right exhaust it surely won't be muted. Listen to a F40 LM, LOUD. Low RPM power could be as good with the right set-up, which I am sure they will do. Four less cylinders wouldn't bother me since there are two turbochargers replacing them. Redline might be a little lower, but not for sure. Look how high the boosted older F1 cars revved, and CART cars, plus some ALMS cars too. Reliability will be better, four less cylinders to worry about, less valves, moving parts that equal more then the two hairdryers will. I think a TT V8 would be a blast in a new Ferrari supercar.
I think guys and girls, that the next Super Ferrari is going to be insane... very small and light weight, insane shifts, and a sure bet its will be a stunner. V8TT- Bring it ON!
Love v12s but they are heavy. For us high altitude guys, turbos are the way to go. Modern ones like whats in the 911 have virtually eliminated turbo lag with practically no extra weight
Im sure it will be light weight, but you guys have to remember that they probably aren't going to save alot of weight from running a v12... Turbos are very heavy... especially two of them... plus there ducting... twin intercoolers (especially if they are water to air) wastegates etc... All that fun stuff ads up too. Regardless its going to be a great car I am sure of it. Also, with the new variable vane turbo technology along with direct injection which will allow for a high compression ratio (which will help reduce lag) the car should be pretty lag free. The BMW 3 series cars even with single turbos spool practically instantly. Also couple in variable valve timing etc... it should be a rocket... also McClaren on the MP4-12C claims to have zero lag... IF they can do it... im sure Ferrari can.
I think it's a great idea. It's the first step to less weight while adding more power. And besides, the GTO and F40 are legends, no need to worry about the next supercar not packing 12 cylinders.
I agree that a V10 or V12 would be a nicer option, sounding better etc (an NA v10/12! No turbos please...they dilute the sound), but a twin turbo V8 really is the best option for performance. The engine is lighter and can give the same power. That said, if there weren't these stupid emission regulations, an F1 derived V10 (upped to 4.7 liters, 9500 RPM redline and retaining the 50 valves) would be a dream I'd love Ferrari to realize.
Ferrari have set the bar high with the 599GTO I think, the Enzo replacement is going to have to be very quick to sit happily at the top of the range.
Very true. And I have noticed turbos dilute the sound. Ferrari is definitely due for a V10 destined for the streets..
