I hate to have to agree with you, but I think you're right. So, where do you think Bradshaw guys? One notch lower than Brady and Montana? T
Staubach is the greatest QB of all time. If he would've played in the 80s 90s he would have broken every record in the book. Not to mention he retired, created a billion dollar company, sold it and gave 80% of the proceeds to his employees. Oh yeah he won the Heisman and was a decorated war veteran too. Captain America has no peer in the NFL either now or then.
It depends on your definition of 'greatest'. As far as Denver goes, it kinda scared me that Pittsburgh AND New England played them so close - I did not expect it to be that close, and it should not have been. I keep thinking there is a reason Kubiak got fired, and I have not seen the Denver offense exactly light it up this season..
I'm contractually obligated to point out that my wife agrees with you 200% ! Or, it's be sleeping on the couch. T
Perhaps, but he didn't exactly get blown out and they did lose to a great Steelers team. To quote Wiki..."Staubach also led the Cowboys to Super Bowl appearances in Super Bowl X and Super Bowl XIII, where they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers both times by a total of eight points." T
Didn't like the Pro Bowl.* Made no recommendations to improve it. What should be done, if anything? *Translation: not enough viewers, not enough ad revenue. No Pats showed. My guess is Bellychick doesn't want his players subjecting themselves to injury. Thinks players with two personal fouls in a game should be ejected. Says it takes the pressure off the refs to have to make those decisions. Well, refs then cannot call a second personal foul to keep a player in the game. Please note in soccer if you get two yellow cards (much akin to a personal foul) the player gets a red card, is ejected from the game AND THE TEAM HAS TO PLAY A MAN SHORT. How is it soccer refs can handle the pressure but NFL refs can't? Discuss.
^Are soccer refs full time employees or do they ref as a weekend job? Last story l saw was by NFL ref coordinator, the headline indicated he didn't think there was a problem with current definition of a catch. I gotta find & read story, because that just boggles my mind...T
I think this is story I saw. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/14690100/dean-blandino-nfl-vice-president-officiating-says-catch-rule-unlikely-change T
The Pro-Bowl needs to die it's inevitable death. It's the only sport I would argue that shouldn't have an all-star game. And if I was a coach I wouldn't want any of my players go either. Soccer refs job is easier than an NFL ref. Look at how quickly each play unfolds versus the pretty steady pace of soccer. Since I am not familiar with soccer, do they ever issue penalties for flopping? Everything is over-dramatic, and everyone is carried off the field on one of those stupid makeshift gurneys like they're dying, only to run back on to the field a couple minutes later.
Yes, yellow cards are given for diving/flopping. And you may get a red card if you are on defense and dive in a penalty zone...which results in a penalty kick which are made 90% of the time. Unlike American football and rugby, drawing a free kick or penalty kick by overacting seems to be the norm. Once you are substituted for you can't go back in...you are done for the game. I have not seen a player jump off a gurney and re-enter the game. But it is fairly common to see a player writhing in pain jump up and act like nothing is wrong. This is usually done when the ref is looking elsewhere. There is only one ref who can call penalties...he has to focus on the ball. The assistants are on the side lines and call off sides and who touched the ball last to see who has possession, whether it is a goalie kick or a corner kick. They may call a handball or penalty if they are close enough...but this is very rare. There are no replays. Everything is in real time. Penalty calls can be inconsistent...much depends on the view the ref has. I do not know if soccer refs are full time. While l like American football better some of the things l like about soccer are: Continuous play, no time outs, no commercials. Time wasted for injuries and penalties are added to the end of the 45 minute half. 1-3 minutes is normal. The skill of the European soccer players is amazing. I don't watch American soccer.
^^^ All very well stated and true in my opinion also. I may be wrong, but am pretty sure soccer refs are not "full time" at any level. I'm out of touch, but beyond a "generous" travel/hotel allowance, they don't get paid much. They (mostly, anyway) do it for the "love of the game". And the best (as determined by team managers post-match reports) get to go to the big tournaments - Brazil this summer would be pretty cool I feel. They're also trying very hard to cut out, or at least reduce, the flopping BS that seems to have come in over the past few years. For sure, if the ref (or the lino's) see it, its a yellow card these days. The "problem" is that we watching on the 'box get many replays, from many different angles that he doesn't - He's gotta make the call in real time. Not easy. Cheers, Ian
Messi!.... Messi!...... Just incredible talent. Once in a lifetime IMO. [I guess Jerry Rice may be the closest equivalent here (?)] It's the speed its now played at over there that gets me. You should - you'll appreciate the European game even more! Seriously, that's no longer fair - The MLS is at a pretty good standard these days I think. I was at the inaugural MLS game in San Jose many years back. Row 1 midfield seats that someone gave me! At 1/2 time my "neighbor" realized I was English, and asked what I thought of the game. "My boys could do better....." It's come a long way. Cheers, Ian
Before anyone notes it, I know Messi is from Argentina. But he plays for Barcelona every week. Cheers, Ian
He wiped at tear from his eye after the national anthem at the Super Bowl. Wonder if he was thinking...this is my last? He did not ride home on the team plane. Instead took his family to Disneyland and rode in the parade with his kids. Didn't seem really happy at the Denver parade. Maybe wanted to take everything in. Archie said he thought this would be his last game in Denver...maybe anywhere. A Reporter on Inside the NFL (Sho/NFL Channel) said everything Peyton said was in the past tense in a private interview. Speculation that he would buy into the Titans. I really don't think Peyton enjoyed missing so many games this year. Chances of him playing in another Super Bowl are pretty slim. Only 12 teams have won the SB two times in a row. Brock is a free agent. So is Von Miller. Broncos can't afford Peyton and have enough good players for another contender IMVHO. Maybe he can be a qb coach at Den or somewhere. Who is playing his style offense?..not Kubiak.
Why would he buy into the Titans of all teams? I'm always surprised that former great athletes put money into ****ty teams. Look at Michael Jordan....

+1 Titans will be woeful for years, Mariota or not. I saw an internet conspiracy theory that he could go to Rams, and help smooth the transition to the QB they draft at #7. T
After winning the ship MVP he has been making the rounds on tv and radio. What l learned: He wants to stay in Denver and wants a long-term deal. He likes his teammates. Alot. He wants to win another ship next season. He wants to raise chickens. Took a course in meat prodection at TA&M and became fascinated with raising chickens. He has a couple of dozen now but wants to go commercial after he signs his deal. Von is a car guy. Will likely get an Fcar when he gets his $. Said: you don't put regular gas in a Ferrari. ESPN says Den can franchise tag him for the next year or two. No problem. Von knows this. That gives Den the leverage they need to make a reasonable long term contract. Pay the man.
Christ, they didn't have anyone left to play.. If Peyton REALLY wanted to play, he'd take a pay cut. Others have in prior years, but it is rare.
Peyton is done. He cannot throw anymore. Nothing left to prove, this is the perfect ending to his incredible career and I hope he retires.
Have to agree. I know he's a competitor & wants to pull an Elway, but he's a shadow of his former self. I'm surprised it's gone this long though...T
What is he waiting for to announce retirement? He can pull an elway by retiring now after sb win playing another season would be all time stupidest sports decision
