We had a pretty good thread during playoffs last year, so any thoughts/predictions? The things I'm most interested to see (other than everything to do with the Kings) inclue: -The New Hawks : Still kept the young core, but will the rest work around it? -The Canucks: In my opinion, the strongtest contender for the cup (as much as it pains me to say it) -Coyotes: Was last year just a fluke? -Kovalchuk: Was he worth it? Anybody else?
Well, if Mike Bossy dominates again, and Bryan Trottier plays up to his capabilities, Dennis Potvin plays like we know he can, and with Billy Smith in goal, they can win 2 or 3 Stanley Cups.. (sorry, my knowledge of hockey pretty much stops at about the same time I stopped playing in the leagues here)
Devils are going to dominate. Zajac, Parise, and Kovalchuk line could put up 100+ goals and 200+ points. Not to mention the #1 defense in the league last season and the greatest goalie of all-time. Seems like a winning combo to me.
LOVE IT! New Hawks...... salary cap hurts as always in today's pro sports, cannot get used to Versteeg playing in TO. We gave the Leafs Brett Lebda, too, but he is presently on I R list. Hawks remain VERY dangerous and contenders, for sure. Canucks...... can Roberto the ex-capitan regain his (more) winning form? Do they stay healthy throughout the entire season? Scary western Division contender. Yotes..... well, ummm, lots of youth there and an upstart club no one will take lightly this season. Kovie in NJ? Nope. Isles rule(d)! Hall-of-Famer to be Martin Brodeur deserves every accolade that comes his way. Just a super athlete/person/goalie/pro. May dominate the East Division, fighting it out with arch-rival Philly. However, not the Devils' year. Detroit Red Wings for winning Stanley. 10-11-2010
My blues are looking great this year - 2-0, and they gave those ducks a beating today, in more ways than one
No respect for my Sharks? Although Rob Blake has retired, we've now got Niemmi in goal (good), Jumbo Joe is the new captain (was he the "C" in Boston? Any good?) and a bunch of maturing guys. If they don't make the final this season they may as well stop trying to sell tickets! Expectations are *really* high (again ) Cheers, Ian
He was the captain in Boston, but probably not the best choice at the time. He was young still and didn't seem to be ready. Joe is (or at least was while in Boston) a happy-go-lucky kind of guy and never seemed like the type that would speak out and demand his teammates follow his lead. But, I saw an interview with him after being named captain in San Jose and he definitely seems ready to do that now.
Thanks for that. I'd say he's still a happy go lucky guy but certainly has the respect of the team. Hopefully he's now up to the task.... IIRC, two seasons back now Patty Marleau was the C and ultimately that was perceived as a bad move - Some even wanted him traded! Didn't he get a reputation in Boston as a whiner? Cheers, Ian
No. He was (and still is) loved here. He might have been viewed as a little lazy sometimes, but not a whiner.
The last time I really paid any attention to hockey was when NO ADVERTISING was on the boards or painted on the ice... it's been awhile so I will STFU.
I just got into hockey as the playoffs started last year. Going to a school in New England, I really had no choice I liked it, so I'm going to try and stick with it this year. LET'S GO BRUINS!
Pittsburgh beat by Flyers tonight in battle for PA. But they are still HOT! First segment of season now in the books. Red Wings Flyers Hawks Habs ? Canucks Upstart from the east (Bruins?) (BOO Penguins BOO) Thoughts?
I slept thru the first half of the season and now see that the Stars at the top of the western conf. Wow! By the way, has anyone seen the Ryan/Koivu stick swap video? Epic!
Stars are rolling. Turco left, gave plague to Black Hawks until a certain rookie 'keeper displaced Turco's losing self as the Hawks starter. Wings lose Cleary (broken ankle) after losing Datsyuk (broken hand) after losing Modano (gash through arm and nerves feeding wrist). Pitts still smokin' hot (boo-boo-booooooo) but Philly wants to ream them out for PA turf permit. Avs still hanging around - are they really this good? For the entire season this good? Who else do you see as season progresses into 2nd period? Ummmm sorry, Leafs not so much lately although they always sell out.
Fre-kin' Vancouver Canucks are hot, but coming down with some of the mid/late season injuries that the Red Wings are now rebounding from. Wings beat Fla tonight by a goal after TCB at Tampa Bay last night. Hockey weekend in CA (uh, sorry you folks in California. CA no longer is you) and USA this weekend- esp. all day Sunday. Dang if Philly just keeps looking and playing awesome, and picking up Kris Versteeg from Leafs just strengthened them that much more. See anyone in east right now to beat them? Wings vs Flyers for Lord Stanley.
Hopefully the blues can have a hot second half - although it seems they got the short end of the stick on the Eric brewer trade yesterday.
I really didn't expect the West to be this tight almost 3 quarters in to the season. Should make for some really exciting games. I still think the Canucks are the team to beat though.
Jeepers the Blues moved Brad Boyes. Yes, Vancouver is in cruise mode this winter. L A Kings grab Dustin Penner from the Oilers (paid for him, too). Wonder if he'll skate tonight against the Red Wings? NHL trade deadline this afternoon.
Yes,Boyes looked good last night, real puck work skills...but Canes got two important points with o/t win...Sabers good team, will make playoffs...NY and Atlanta kaput,IMO.Canes have sights on Montreal...but Blackhawks tonight,wow...something positive from tonight a plus. Go Canes! Cheers, RE
