I would have to say at this point in time, the players are still getting used to the new rules. Having said that, there are way too many penalties presently, but I expect that to change. I do like the bigger zones. The game will be much more offence-oriented. The more goal scoring there is, the more exciting to watch. I just want to see the teams playing at full strength more often than not.

I'm just so happy that hockey is back!

    What are your thoughts?

Went to one pre-season game and the home openner here in Dallas. I'm very happy that the game is back. The new rules are interesting. There are tons of penalties, but I like the scoring. :)

I'm a huge hockey fan and glad to have them back. I went to the Kings home opener and liked the flow of the game better. The new rules seem to allow skill players to show their skills. I like the more open style of play. I'm still undecided on the shootout.

In the games I've seen, they're definitely calling lots more obstruction penalties. Even after a few games, the players (at least the Kings) seems to be adjusting to the rules, based on the penalty count.

The Rangers are still losing games, in the words of Eddie Vedder "everything has changed, absolutely nothing's changed." Sigh.

I'm just glad to see hockey again, nice to have something to throw on in the background on weeknights when I'm working out, doing work, etc.

Too many damn penalty's if you ask me. But I do like that the goalie equipment is smaller because it should result in more goals. Pittsburg will be interesting to watch with Sydney Crosby.

The Leafs got Lindros which I think is a total waste of money, but obviously I hope I'm wrong!

It will be interesting to see what Pittsburgh can do, especially if Lemieux can stay healthy. Can you think of a better mentor for Crosby than Lemieux?!

Seriously. That will be a rediculous power-play line. I hope Lemieux can stay healthy b/c that will be some exciting hockey.

I am glad hockey is back too. I like some of the new rules. I think teams are on the power play way to much right now but that will decrease as the players get adjusted to the new rules. I also hope that the officials officiate the playoffs like they do the regular season. If they are going to call the obstruction calls now they better call it in the playoffs too.

Crosby has been solid so far. I think he has 6 points in 4 games. I think the Penguins will get better as the season goes on. They signed one of the best offensive defensemen in the league with Gonchar too.

Only seen a couple periods of regular season play but it looks like the changes made a difference. Looks more similar to the rec league I play in, not as much contact, longer passes, "more open" play and all that junk. I like it.

Don't forget Ziggy. Big loss for us, but great gain for the Penguins. BTW, the dog in my Avatar was named for Ziggy. I might have to change his name to Pavel. LOL

You play in a rec league? Ice or roller?? I played roller for 2 years. Hmmm...sorry, didn't mean to begin a hijack.

BTW, I watched two games tonight, both on NHL Ticket on DirecTV. They have this preview thing going until tomorrow. I'm loving it. :D

Roller, at Elzie Odom Rec Center in Arlington, I've played for 4 or 5 seasons. Where did you play? I took this season off cause of work but will play the next one, it should start soon. Wanna play?

God, I would love to play. I'm not that good (I'm much better on my feet...still not the best skater). I played at Breakaway in Arlington with my school. We played tournaments in Houston as well. If you find out anything....please let me know. I'd love to get back into it. Heck, I just need to restart my physical activity.

    One footnote;

Watching hockey in high definition on my new 51" Samsung DLP tv is absolutely sensational! I just wish I could catch more local games in HD. I currently have the DISH HD package. I would buy that NHL season pass if they were broadcast in HD.
