Hey folks. I just received my October '06 issue of "Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car" Magazine. (If you don't subscribe, you really should. Always has lots of great articles and Tech stuff, mostly for Vintage Exotic and Sportscars. But is also available at your local newstand.)

Anyway, in this issue, they have a great article, "Buyers Guide:1975-1985 308 GTB/GTS". Lots of good information from the first carburated Fiberglas cars, through the GTS and GTSi series, and to the QV series.

Lots of "specs". Price guides. Pros (Many) and cons (few). Performance. Production numbers, (which they list as originally around 12,000 Cars. But, how many are gone due to Rust, Crashed, Burned, or located in Europe. I wonder how many there really are here in the U.S. now?) Specialist references. Parts sources and prices. Service prices. (Which they list a Major Service should be between $2K to $4K.) There are even a few references to ferrarichat.com in the article.

    Check it out!

Not much. They do mention that the 308 GTB was kind of a mix of the 365BB and the 246 Dino. And that it used the same mid engine V8 design as was first used in the Bertone designed 308GT4. But the article is about the "308GTB/GTS series".

Absolutely! Yes, it is nice to collect as much literature about the car as you can, too.

I have found an original specification sheet and an original Ferrari brochure. And I also have a copy of Road and Track from back in the day when they did the first road tests on the 308. Which was most generously given to me as a gift from "Jerrari" in Michigan. Also, I have several Posters that I have picked up over the years, And I was just given a really beautiful, framed, original Ferrari promotional poster of the 308, again, most generously by "Rennmaus" and her hubby.

Check out the Auto Shows and Swap meets for vendors that sell old car literature. (EBay, too.) You never know what you'll find!

I have a few other magazines that have feature articles on the 308, and this one will join them in that collection.

In this same issue. There is a good article about the old Maserati Tipo 61- "Birdcage" Racing Cars.

And another one about a Classic Sportscar Restoration Shop that was founded by a Guitarist from the "J.Geils Band".

    Cool.

Somehow the author got my name. He asked me to review a draft & add my $0.02. I got the draft about 12 hours before the deadline. It was about 10:00 PM before I got a chance to look at it. I put in as many plugs for Fchat as I could. He didn't have the ferrari owners site/Ferrari.uk listed as a resource so I pointed them out. Hope they were in the final article. Was really tired by the time I got to it, & blew it by not mentioning Birdman's Ferrari Parts... (Sorry Jonathan.).

After the deadline I had a nice phone call with the author. He's joined Fchat. In my review I pointed out that the 308 is the only Ferrari whose owners are doing their own serious performance modifications. As a result, he is considering a follow up article on '308 Owner Performance Modifications'. I suggested he start a Tech Q&A thread asking owners willing to discuss their mods to contact him.

Wow! You've received some very nice gifts. A colleague of mine just came back from France about a week ago. He brought me back an original brochure for the 308 QV, in excellent shape. Was really nice of him. I've got a few contemporary books/mags, and one or two old R&T or C&D mags from the early 90's, but nothing else vintage for the 308. I would absolutely love something like an original 308 poster...

Also, sadly the big newstand in my office building only had the September Hemmings, so I've got to check some other places...
Used to have a subscription to Forza -- need to renew it...

Yes, you must get the Forza!

Well, I am a subsciber to both Hemmings Motor News, and Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car. So, maybe they were sent out earlier to the subscribers than to the newsstands. This is the October '06 issue. On the cover is a Blue Porsche 930. Definitely a nice little magazine.

Bubba, I bought one of those in early 2002 from:

Original issue from a dealership out west. A few greasy fingerprints here and there but what do you expect?

It's Hemmings SPORTS & EXOTIC CAR and it's on page 92. There is a blue Porsche Turbo on the front. You might have purchased the regular Hemmings book.
