I should explain this was a handling day were I was trying to get to grips with left foot braking through a corner, and of course Sy was there to catch all the best bits... or just another day on the M25!
Wonder if/when the car was sold if it was ever stated as being a garage queen, no showboating, hot dogging or tracked....never seen rain as well....
Of course i did, but not sure the breakers yard believed me! How I miss that car, and this was filmed before i got the set up just right.
Nice video but if that was common driving for that car I feel sorry for the guy that picked it up after him when he sold it.
just to say this was the car i used for competition and although it hurts to dig it out again, this is a pic of its last moments. Unfortunately it wasnt ever sold as a working article, i had a slight off at the bouley bay hillclimb in Jersey which put paid to my championship aspirations that year! It was towards the end of the meeting but it stopped racing to allow recovery of car which took some time as you can imagine. short story was rear stepped out round corner held in opposite lock till ran out of road, hit bank and tree on right corner, launched, barrel rolled through trees, came to rest pointing upwards 20 ft above stream, and dropped down and then onto roof. car came back on pallet, i got very drunk after release from hospital, but was loaned a nice new maserati to drive back, so not all lost! Back there next Easter in the 355.... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks Sy knew you would chip in! Just an afterthought, what they would have got of course was a car that was superbly prepared utterly reliable, with great handling and no expense spared in the maintenance and upkeep, a huge basket of spare parts, wheels and bumpers etc. Being highly competitive such cars have their own market and value.
I'd buy a Ferrari off Andrew anytime. He drives them as they are meant to be driven and looks after his cars more than most owners do.
If you look in front of the ambulance the tree down the road was the first one i hit! I don't actually remember much about it, but we figured it out from marks on road and broken tree stumps etc. I also talked to the marshalls who saw it but they had unclear memories, 2 thought i had barrel rolled in air before leaving the road, when it was clearly after. What they did do was get me out quick, so eternally grateful for that!
How right you are, didn't have any symptoms i saw, no great oil use etc but they are not in good condition. Im getting old, what can i say? I don't have the strength any more!
Good thing you're ok. God must have been on your side. I'm assuming you had a roll cage in your 348 at the time of the crash?
No we dont need cages for hillclimbing, low risk sport and all that! it was interesting and greatly comforting that the roof, although dented, didnt stop the doors from opening once upright again. I was pleasantly surprised about how intact the main cabin remained despite the damage to front and rear, and roof, well and sides. ok and underneath as well... I didnt find out till later the corner is named Sleamans - in memory of the last bloke who came off there! so yes a lucky day, I generally judge it by the number of bangs, if just one thats bad, i had 3 so slowed down a bit with each one.
