Okay, nobody will ask it so I guess I will. Who is the good looking lady flying the SU-26?

She has definate but smooth execution.

I think she's a Russian Lady. Elena Klimovich...
    see here:

and check out the control surfaces... looks like she's going into a tight right hand spin, head over tail.

Elena is doing a Lomcevak in the still that Skyraider posted and in the video. GAAAD what a film ! ! What a great looking gal, too. It took me an hour to download the video ( Dial up ) but it was worth every minute of it. The Lomcevak is entered by performing an outside snaproll while climbing at a 45 deg angle and then centering the controls briefly when the airplane is upright and then pushing full forward and hang on. I imagine there are variations on it these days but that was what Art Scholl and several others told me some years ago.....like 35.

Tell ya what Bob, the first time I saw Art Scholl do a lomcevak, I damned near fell over. Screwed me up on the ground even. What the hell was that? How did he make that happen? He was quit a stick. His wife, Judy, was in the hanger last summer. Have a pix of her somewhere sitting in the junkstang.

" Art School" , as we called him, was one helluva pilot and had absolutely no respect for what could happen to him. At one of the Abottsford airshows he was showing off a new small plane auto pilot and made a pass in front of the crowd OUT OF THE COCKPIT AND STANDING ON THE WING as he flew by at 100 feet. Smiling and waving at the crowd. And he had the nerve to tell my partner and me that we were crazy doing what we were doing.
Steve, you always have a good picture of whatever we are talking about. Great !

It's a great show, but am I wrong that it looks like little effort - physically -compared to what I remember hanging upside down on a seatpack in a citabria, decathlon or Stearman - which was a seriously heavy duty workout to make it look anywhere near as sweet as what I see on these recent videos of the Yaks, etc?

Not intended to diminish the brilliance of these performances, I just have never had the opportunity to fly these types of aircraft.

    What say you who have?

I have never flown the types of aircraft that we have recently been thrilled with and I can't imagine how competent they are but one must take a look at what advanced machines they are. Extra light weight carbon fiber, light weight and powerful aircooled engines , unbelievable aerodynamic designs with huge and powerful control surfaces, and highly skilled pilots. Look at the ailerons, they have to be 25 to 30 percent of the total wing area, the rudder and elevator the same. The wing sections are designed with fat leading edges that will not stall. With skill that was shown, you can do some wild and crazy things that were impossible in previous years. Very few pilots are priviledged to fly these things. There are a few up here in the N.W. and they are truly tools of the special pilots who can afford them. I don't take anything away from those great pilots we see now but credit must be given to the machines too. Unlike a Stearman , you don't have to hold full forward stick with both hands to fly inverted for a few seconds.
