In the ever egomaniacal world that is F1, I found this to be a very nice gesture on JB's part. Two thumbs up for this one.

Barrichello gifted lucky number 11 by Button

LONDON, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Brazilian Rubens Barrichello will race with his lucky number 11 at the Honda Formula One team next year after team mate Jenson Button gave up his claim to it.

BAR finished sixth in the 2005 championship, with their drivers allocated race numbers 11 and 12. As the new arrival from former champions Ferrari, Barrichello would have taken number 12 to the Briton's 11.

Button discovered, however, that the Brazilian had achieved the first race win of his career, all his karting titles and his first victory in the junior Formula Ford championship with the number 11.

At Ferrari, with whom he won nine races, he was always number two to Germany's Michael Schumacher.

"I have no particular affinity with any number -- other than one of course, which I hope to race with enormous pride when I achieve my goal of winning the world championship," Button told the Honda team website.

"In the meantime I know how special the number 11 has been to Rubens in his past career and I thought it would be nice to make the gesture.

"We'll have plenty to be competing for on track next season. We're good friends already and we're both looking forward to being team mates. I just hope number 11 isn't too lucky for Rubens next year."

Honda will start the season with full ownership of what was the BAR team. BAR failed to win a race since their debut in 1999 while 25-year-old Button has now started 100 grands prix without a victory.
