http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2010/08/18/dnt.nh.no.landing.gear.wmur?hpt=C2 Link is to a video of a Beachcraft that had gear deployment failure. Considering the circumstances that's a pretty nice landing!
Works fine for me? http://www.wmur.com/video/24667719/index.html Try this one. That's from the local news station.
First link didn't work for me he first time I tried it but I clicked on it a 2nd time and then it worked. Strange. In the first video it shows the plane at the end with the 3-bladed prop sitting above the ground. Do you think the engine was stopped by the pilot before he slid it in or is the plane tall enough to clear the prop while sitting on its belly?
Once the pilot was sure that we could make the landing, we probably would have pulled the mixture to shut down the engine. The prop arch swings below the belly of the plane, which should explain whythe prop tips are bent in the pictures. You don't want the engine running when you land wheels up if at all possible since that could do damage to the engine.
Looked to me like a textbook gear up landing, about as perfect as it could be; right out of the EP section of that Bonanza flight manual. Flaps down, door opened, with field made throttle to idle then fuel, mags and master off to flair just before stall speed. He may have to do a sudden stoppage inspection on the engine but if it was just wind milling on its way to a stop after cuttoff, it wasn't making any power so I doubt it hurt the crank even with the curled prop tips. He did good, and probably didn't tear the bottom up too much.
Great landing - we've occasionally had a few of those around here that I can recall. I like that he figured that he might as well land it where it will get fixed, so came back home. Good wit. One of my friends almost got to do this in '94 or so. King Air gear wouldn't drop all the way, so he called and told me to meet him at Meacham with the video camera, that it was going to be interesting. They got it to drop about 30 minutes before landing.....and we went for a stiff drink.
