I was in Luxemburg in 1988 as a Steward for the First World Hot Air Airship Championships. There was an evening tether of balloons as part of the celebration. A Frenchman I knew was lighting fireworks from his wicker basket that had, of course, multiple propane tanks onboard. It was a seriously dumb thing to do.
