I want to get a good night vision setup, but there are so many out there I have no idea what is good and what isn’t. Something that could do both night vision and thermal would be great.

The market ranges from $3k to $50k, see: https://www.vcoptics.com/product-page/l3harris-gpnvg-18-ground-panoramic-night-vision-goggle

    And: https://www.atncorp.com/night-vision-goggles

I’m sure there are a number of people on this board that have used them as part of their career, and would love some input.

Buy new? Can you buy used military stock? Should you?

How important is a wide view?

    Ideally my budget is $8k-$10k.

It may be helpful to understand the use case, as that may determine the best solution.

A number of my clients have been the victims of the Chilean burglaries. They are located in hilly areas where the thief's hike up hills and into the homes. Zero lighting in the accessible areas.

the typical security/patrol companies do not have NVGs or if they did they would charge quite a bit to use them.

my thought would be to purchase one and move it around to different clients to aid in patrol of the area.

while there is a strong chance the typical patrol employee will damage or mis use them I’m hoping to deal with that procedurally

In addition, I live in a valley surrounded by hills and riverbeds and would like to be able to scan the areas at night should the need arise. There have been two burglaries in my neighborhood In which one was most likely the same gang, or copycat version.

Not sure NV/Thermal is going to solve your problem. But, I settled on iRay RH25 since I wanted something of a spotter and to be able to clip on to my rifle.
