Getting that thing started and that door closed before transport would really ease my stress. Hopefully going to get help from a local Ferrari Chatter on this! I really love this forum and really appreciate all of the feedback.

All in my first day of Ferrari ownership I got to experience of the highs and lows of what is entailed in owning these cars: An out of body experience driving the car home 90 miles from Boston, making people's days by letting them take pictures and gawk, but also that maintaining a Ferrari can cause a lot of headaches and stress!

To get my 612 door open when the battery was dead, I was told by FoW to put my full weight on the door to get it under the weather stripping. Probably harder the other direction but maybe worth a try. Kill the battery cutoff and go get yourself a dirt cheap charger and clamp it to the battery directly. You'll get it charged.

Doesn't Mass have a used car warranty law when purchased from a licensed dealer?

I will try that tomorrow. Sounds like it could work. Thanks!

Yes we do. The dealer (Herb Chambers) is responsible for transporting it and should cover costs pertaining to the battery, fan relay (which caused the drained battery), and anything associated with the F1 warning light.

Okay, then the next options include:

    1) Tie up the latch mechanism on the door to the latch mechanism on the B-post to hold the door in a closed position.

    2) Place a soft blanket/quilt over the car where the door sections are and then strap the doors closed from the outside by running the strap under the car, over the doors and across the roof (NOTE: Do not over tighten the straps though!)

    3) Tape the door shut with masking tape all around the rear and bottom edges of the door (use plenty of tape and then run some tape a few times right the way over the roof and back underneath the car. You could use Duck/Duct tape but I'd be worried about damaging the paint work! - At least masking tape should be safe on the paintwork!)

    4) Sit inside the car during transportation either holding the door in a closed position, or better still, with the door strapped to the steering wheel to save you having to hold it (NOTE: The driver probably won't let you do this on health and safety grounds though!)

    Where there's a Phill - There's a way! ;)

Hang tight. Congrats on the purchase. Honestly I avoided an F1 type to try and save some on maintenance. You will get this fixed so don't worry. NE Ferrari did my alignment after the major this spring. They will take care of you. Turn the battery switch off and keep charging the battery until it starts to take. I had a battery cable come off on my maiden voyage back at home here after purchasing the car and transporting it back from Long Island last fall. Some kid must have screwed up down there. It was mounted all wrong! Then the wait for insurance and registration was MURDER! It took a month but I had several drives before the snow came. Take care and maybe we can meet up sometime mid state? I am at my mileage limit but have a new driveway bridge ramp and a wheel and tire package on the way before winter :) I just renewed with a higher limit so I guess I'm good. ;) Are the power locks the problem closing the door or the window seam?

Let's definitely meet up. I love how this forum can connect me with local Ferrari owners! My cell is 413 374 9466. Be in touch!

I know I got a good car that just needs a little initial tlc to get going. But I would rather have spent more for a car that was ready to go!

As far as the door I think it is power related. I'm getting together with a local Ferrari owner today to see if we can remove and charge the battery. Hopefully that solves the door problem. I can't access the battery switch as the boot can only be opened when the power is on (I think?)

Emergency cable release for front bonnet under steering column near dead pedal.
Once you get the battery issue resolved, all should be fine other than the F1 issue.

Right, manual release cable. It should have a little black T handle on it. My cell is 617-331-4534. I'll text you now.

I did indeed find the manual release. And with some help from Phil V from my hometown, we were able to get the battery going, remove the fuse that was causing the fan to persist after shutoff, and then start the car! Got to enjoy a few drives finally.

Now I will transport the car to the Ferrari dealership in Eastern MA for a major service/checkup.

Thanks so much for all of the feedback, and especially thanks to Phil V for giving me the time and sharing his vast knowledge of all things Ferrari!

Somehow I'm thinking I will be changing the clutch . I'm sure it hasn't been changed (even with low miles - 7800 - it's a 2003). Shifts a bit slow between 1st and 2nd, and 2nd and 3d. But that could also be operator error. I am just learning how to use the paddle shifters.

I almost bought a red 360 Spider from M Motors. I think the guy's name is Walter.

I will look into the extended warranty. It's got to be big bucks

Don't blindly replace the clutch. Have the F1 problem properly diagnosed by someone capable, not over the internet. Typically, a worn clutch causes the transmission to slip into neutral during shifting. You were getting an F1 warning that may point in a different direction. Only someone capable with proper equipment can tell and fix your car.

No doubt about it. I am bringing the car into Ferrari NE next week and they will go through the car with a fine tooth comb. If the clutch needs replacing then they will do it. I want the car perfect going forward!

Yes, shut the master power off so your charger can power the battery up
Replace those expensive parts first, then figure out the problem later
