I am thinking about picking one of these up soon. I tested it out at Wolf Camera for about 2 minutes and really liked it. For those that own/have used it alot, what do you think about it for an everyday lens? My worry is that, if I get this lens, I won't want to use my 18-200mm VR lens anymore.

    Thanks,

    John

I thought about the 18-200 VR but it was backordered, so I got the 17-55 2.8 DX and the 70-200 2.8 VR. I showed that salesman how to deal with the stinking backorders.

Seriously, I love them both and they changed my amatuer skills.

I also have the 70-200mm f/2.8 VR. I like my 18-200mm, but after testing out the 17-55mm, the quality is clearly better. I almost shipped my 18-200mm off to Adorama to be sold yesterday, but I just couldn't let go of it. :(

What is the best price you have found for it online. I have found prices anywhere from $1200-$1400. What about you?

I paid $1300 for the 17-55, and $1600 for the 70-200 ay my local shop. A little more than the cheapest online prices but the guy helps me out and has nice Epson pro printers.

AF-S Nikkor 17-55mm 1:2.8G ED DX - Excellent performance for two years now on D2X. At times wanted more zoom, Nikkor multiplier works excellent and easy to carry in small cam bag with Nikon 2800 flash.

    John,

I've had one for a while now and it almost never leaves my camera. I bought it when I had my D100 and now use it on my D200. Very sharp, fast, although a little heavy. I've tried the 18-200 but it felt a little plasticky to me. The 17-55 is well built.
