Hey everyone, So I've been lurking on the forums a little while now and now its time to get involved!!! Anyway I just purchased my first digital SLR camera as well as some materials to help me get acclimated to it, I picked up Nikon D60 for Dummies as well as the Nikon instructional DVD. But I am curious about any tips or pointers folks on here can provide me with specifically for shooting cars, still, motion etc. Any help would definetally be appreciated bc I am a 100% noob! Thanks!!!!

Chris, a couple sections above this has a Architecture, Design and Visual Arts section, you might want to try that.

If shooting moving cars, practice panning. Do it lilke a golf swing, even after you hear the "shutter", keep panning. Make sure you adjust for any lag between depressing the "shutter" button and the "shutter" actually recording the image. Preplan a place, a target, where the car will be for that shot, and practice being on target.

Most of all have fun and remember, unlike those of use that did real photography in the good old days using film, you can make all the mistakes you want and all you have to do is "erase".

Buy the book "Understand Exposure" Also, look at photos you like and look at the EXIF data to see what their shutter speed/aperture/iso was and then use that as a starting point. You can look at my gallery from Petit Lemans this year if you want to see racing photos with EXIF.

Click on a photo you like. Scroll down to the bottom right and click on "more properties" Its under my Canon EOS 1D. Then you can see all of the info for that particular shot.

WOW you've got some great shots in there, thanks for the mini flickr tutorial as well...i just registered on there last night as well, I'll keep everyone updated when I get something good up there someday...one question however, do you take note of all the details of each shot, or does your camera do that automatically and you simply upload the data onto flickr for everyone to see? I'm really new at this as you can see but the more info the better!

The camera stores the data automatically.
