I was going to get the D800 but really can't handle the huge file sizes of the 36MP & frankly don't need to enlarge that much. D600, just announced, at 24MP FX seems like it might be a great choice. Have one yet? Thoughts?

Have you gotten it yet? If so are you happy? Considering one myself.

What lenses do you have and what kind of photography do you use them for? Probably more important than the camera...

I currently have a D300 and am happy with it. I am toying with the idea of adding a FX body to supplement it. I intend to use the FX for normal photography (travel, etc) and reserve the D300 for races, etc where I need the extra zoom.

I will take a used D700 over a new D600 for the following reasons:
    - Bigger body - better balanced with super telephoto lenses. The D600 is too small for my hands - just like my old D50, it is not comfortable for extended period of time. The D3/D3S has the ultimate fit but I don't want it because it doesn't have a in built flash and it is about $600-1000 more expensive in the used market.
    - Bigger autofocus zone with 51 points
    - Same battery and CF card as D300 - the D600 takes SD.
    - Built tough - my D300 has been in light rain, sand, etc and is a tank

But that's just me and perhaps for you the D600 would be a great fit.

If I could have had a DX at the time I might have. Truth is D600 is this year's shining star. No I do not like the need for a zoom lens to get as close to my subject as I'm used to. I can see my purchase of a 300 zoom in near future.
