Wish I could! Looks like a fabulous camera, but unfortunately I'm going to have to settle for the cheaper D5000.

Let us know how you like it when you get it =D

Does the D7000 require special lenses (like the D5000 did) or not?

Does the D7000's display swivel out (like on the D5000)?

I believe the answers to be no and no. Correct?

Personally I'm sick and tired of the D200 I have and I'm looking for something more user friendly. The D90 or the D3001 looked like good candidates. Maybe the D7000 beats those?

I cant wait to replace the D200. I hate this camera.

Correct. The D7000 will accept any Nikon lens & the LCD screen is fixed, unlike the D5000. The D5000 & D3100 are the most user friendly. The D7000 is a more serious camera but it might not be as user friendly. I'm going to buy it because of the superior sensor with it's low-light capabilities, the little data screen on the top like my D50 (they have done away with this screen on the entry level DSLR's), the magnesium body, the lower ISO & the 1280p auto focus video mode.

I've played with a D5000 and it's a great camera! I'm sure the D3100 will be a great camera also but I'm getting to a point where I need something closer to a professional camera. The D5000 beats out the D300s (a true pro camera) in several areas. I don't know anything about the D200 but I'm guessing it was their entry level professional camera.

The D200 was the predecessor to the D300 and is pro through and through. I probably got carried away by that thought and now have to suffer the consequences: An insanely heavy clunker with a user interface from hell. Nothing comes natural and there are really important buttons on the back, which you can easily move into the wrong position without noticing and your whole "roll of film" is done for.

I had the D70 before and that camera fit me like a glove. I could done anything with it and I did. Other than that it is by now old technology, I would still have it. So I want something like the D70 again.

PS: I hate the D200 so much that I was close to giving up on Nikon altogether.

Have had a D90 for a little over a year now and thought it would last be years...but I think I will be buying a D7000 as soon as I can sell my D90 and a couple lenses...

I have a framed picture of your profile picture/avatar! It is somewhere at my parent's house but I had that picture hanging up in my room when I was in high school!

I am hoping to get a new camera soon but nothing feels like the D70! I love my camera and even though it is dying slowly, just like you, no other camera seems to fit quite like it.

If I remember correctly, the D70 was VERY similar to my D50's. I'll keep both of my D50's just in case I don't end up liking the D7000, but I'm sure I will like it.

Your D200 has the switch that selects the focus area. That's the feature I was hoping that the D7000 would have, but maybe it shouldn't if it catches on stuff and moves. On my D50 if I switch from auto to manual (or any mode), the focus setting automatically changes back to the default setting. I always have to go back into the menu to change it back. I hope that with the D7000 it will stay in whatever setting I leave it in rather than always going back to the default setting.

Yes it has the focus switch, but if that gets in the wrong position it is not a major disaster. The real problem is the light measuring switch: If that is in the wrong position the results are randomly over and underexposed pictures. And not in difficult lighting situation, in plain daylight with the sun in your back. And because you're outside you don't notice it on the display anyway and at home you can toss those pics into the delete folder. :(

There are some other quirks where the camera is anything but helpful. The other day I could not select "Mirror lock up" when I needed to clean the sensor. 24 hours later that option was selectable in the software menu. Nothing changed in between. Go figure.

I will pass as the Dx000 series is not for me plus the feature of having moving video in a SLR camera still has no appeal for myself. Long live my D300, D80, and D100.

Andreas Are you shooting JPEG or NEF??? I have had some poorly exposed shots and been able to recover them when I shoot RAW.

Jpg but starting to consider raw

For now I used a sharpie to mark the switch positions on the camera hoping that will remind me to check them under fire

Once you master raw conversion you will never want to shoot JPG ever again. I have not shot JPG ever since Fri practice in Montreal when I had the WB off.

i currently use a d700 as my main camera and a d200 as my backup. im thinking the d7000 might be a good replacment for my d200. it will be miles ahead in terms of low light performance... IMO it will be close to the d700 but in a d90's body. only thing it might be missing is the extra manual control the dx00 series have. will wait and see.

I just placed my order with B&H yesterday, to replace my four-year-old D80. I especially like the fact that (unlike the D80) it has the AI/AIS mechanical interface so the I can use my older lenses.

Even though I've only been shooting for under a year I would love an upgrade. My budget only allowed me to get a D3000, which is fine because I'm still learning and getting better everyday. But not having an in-body focusing motor kind of sucks because if I want auto-focus on my lenses I have to shell out a pretty penny.

I'm debating picking up a 50mm 1.8D AF for cheap because 1) it's an amazing piece of glass and 2) its cheap enough to buy and learn more of the art of manual focus.

This D7000 does look quite nice though.

That's why I still love my D50's & I'll never get rid of them. They have a built in AF motor.

I have that 50mm lens & you can't go wrong with it. It's cheap & great for low light conditions. Of course I use AF mode since I have that capability. I want to pick up a 35mm 1.8 next.

It's been so long since the D7000 was announced but still no signs of an actual release date. I went ahead and got the 5000, which replaced my d40x that was stolen. I can't wait to go out and play with it.

Anyone else get the point of the live view option? I find that it has a difficult time actually focusing on a subject's face, and how is that more superior then just shooting AF-S, since focusing on a slowly moving subject isn't that difficult.

Got use to using the AF-ON button to focus. Will wait to see what the D3oo replacement looks like. 36000 exposures already.
