Rumors getting stronger that Nissan will enter FIA's GT racing this coming season. Testing is under way it seems. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I read elsewhere it may be looking like 2010 in GT1 - when regs change or perhaps GT2 - talk is FIAGT. Apparently it's not as fast as one would think. The car to me looks like they copied Aston in the front end and Ferrari in the rear. Carol Better news - looks like another F430 in LMS !!! Edil Cris from Italy
Looks all Nissan to me. This is going to make me a very happy camper. Let's get back to the glory days of Datsun/Nissan kicking some serious butt on the road courses. Just love me some old 240Z's and 510's hitting the race tracks. Newman, Sharp, Brock, Morton, et al. Just makes me giddy with possibilities!!!
It wouldn't matter is Corvette was there are not..at least not to the GT-R. Corvette might be glad they aren't showing up to compete against Nissan.
If it didn't matter they'd have been there this year. They could have gone into GT2 but they didn't did they? Looks like they are avoiding Corvette racing to me.
Nah...the car wasn't ready for release and team wasn't ready to race. Just a timing thing. Actually hope Corvette shows up along with some others to make it more fun for us all to watch.
The reality is that they should avoid Corvette racing. They've been around for years, beaten everyone they've raced in the class and still know how to win. If Nissan tried to take them on in their first season they'd get pounded. Like I said before, if Nissan wanted to race them they'd enter GT2 instead of GT1 which Corvette is leaving midyear.
Would take time to get two wheel drive variant working well enough for GT2. Only makes sense if selling them to other teams. GT1 has its own logic for them in the new world of international sports car racing on its way.
Looking good! I hope the do well - competition is always a good thing for a sport. (Will this void the warranty? )
Perhaps, but the fact that the dominant team in the class is leaving midyear likely made the decision easier as well.
Nissan afraid of competition? Just not sure where you are getting your "facts" from. Here are a few achievements by Datsun/Nissan: Manufacturers record of over 80 SCCA racing titles Won LeMans Won Daytona 4 times...in a row 200+ IMSA Victories Won the worlds toughest rally, the Safari Rally, at least 7 times outright, with even more podium finishes than that Over 20 off-road titles The list is way too long to put in this forum. Point I'm trying to bring home is that Datsun/Nissan has been extremely successful in racing. No reason for them to fear anyone at this point in time either. I really wish f-cht would allow non-subscribers post pics, because there are some really sexy pics of Datsun/Nissan race cars kicking butts and taking names. If you want to see how well Datsun/Nissan has done and see some of those pics, please visit: http://www.datsunhistory.com/Racehistory1.html

Texas...you da man! Z's have a very special place in my life and heart and those "Dimes" are are just kick butt great. How about showing some of the roadsters and IMSA too!?!
Show them yourself. Open the 'manage attachements' option lower down in your post composition window to add pics of your own. Only difference is subscribed members have no limit.
All that is well and good but the bulk of their success in sportscar racing has been with prototypes. And that was years ago. It would be foolish to think that they could come back now with a new car and beat the dominant team in the class for the past 10 years or so right out of the box.
1600, 1800, 240Z, 260Z, 280Z, 280ZX, 300ZX (Z31), 300ZX (Z32), 510, B210, et al were not prototypes, all were based on production cars. These cars came "right-out-of-the-box" and dominated the sportscar racing scene for years. Just so we are very clear, I have absolutely nothing against Vettes or them racing. Friends drive and race Vettes. I'd really like to see Chevy pull off a ZR1 AWD, but not sure they can handle the technology and the added weight scares me! I am just trying to point out that Datsun/Nissan have a very strong, rich history in road racing and it would be welcome to have them return and do their thing. So are you implying the Vettes being raced are straight from the showroom floor? Now that would be "foolish" thinking. Now then, this is a thread to discuss Nissan's long, overdue return to racing. Maybe you should start up a "Vette Leaving Racing" thread? Just a thought. Besides, the most entertaining Vette racing I have seen were two Vettes painted the same and racing against each other as the sole competitors in their class. Amazing when they ran into each other in pitlane. Seriously, that's bad racing. They really need more competition to make it interesting for themselves and the fans. Then it would be lots more fun.
Firstly let me say I love the GTR, I have a Z06 so I'm a bit biased, but if i could afford both I would have them both. I just prefer my Vette, less complicated. Anyway I think you are missing my point. The Nissan program with the GTR is still new and in the development stages. Corvette racing has been around for many years now and has been dominant. If you take a step back and look at it from a business standpoint, why not go into GT1 when the division is wide open as it will be when Corvette goes to GT2 midyear? No one goes into racing to lose and Nissan is a proud company. They know it would be a some time before they could bring the fight to Corvette racing. It makes sense to avoid them, at least for the time being. I know very well that the Corvette is not raced off the showroom floor as is, obviously, as the GTR isn't either. If they want to fight them head on they will enter the same class. Corvette racing isn't going anywhere, according to them. Just a reduced schedule. P.S. I wish they'd just merge the two classes and just create a GT class. Any one team or car dominating a class is bad for racing.
After this post, sounds like we actually agree on most points. Stupid internet and abbreviated posts. LOL!
Lol no kidding. I'm actually happy the Corvette is getting into GT2, there's not much going on in GT1 these days. Last year at Sebring I asked Johnny O'Connell where the Astons had qualified and he basically wrote them off saying they were on the wrong tire. Corvette finished 1 & 2 that race so he was right. Maybe the Porsches will give them more comp, or any comp for that matter. I hope Nissan goes into GT2.
