This is mine other than the rubbed out identifier Image Unavailable, Please Login It’s good for five years and then you just have to reapply by sending in a form do that until your car has its 25th birthday and then you’re antique status and then you’re golden i’ll never need to go through inspection again
I have a 2000 Porsche 996 that's due for inspection this month -- so it's 25 years old (or close to it, not sure of manufacture date). Does it go by production date or just model year to qualify as 25? I have "historic" QQ plates on a vintage car, but to me it seems like the historic plates would look kind of weird on a 996. Especially to cops, many of which would probably probably think the 996 is much newer than it is. A historic plate also allows you to ditch the front license plate, which I'd love to do on the 996, but I have the feeling I'd get pulled over often -- at least until they saw the rear QQ plate. I'll probably just keep the standard license and go through inspection again.
I have not been pulled over in over a decade for no front plate in NJ. I got pulled over for speeding about 15 years ago and the cop gave me a ticket for no front plate instead of speeding. Worth it.
Not sure, haven't looked into historic plates, but if you can get them go for it. Much easier process than the Collector process I would think. As for cops, it's on your registration, so that takes care of that, I got pulled over in my previous NSX once and he was amazed my car was as old as it was, but he certainly didn't question it with the registration in hand. As for how it looks to have a historic plate, I'd say 'who cares', I kind of like the idea and think it would look cool to have such an amazing car with historic plates.
In NJ, no need to get inspection for passenger cars with model year 1995 or older. I just checked the site, it’s in the FAQ section, so must be once the car is 30 years old. Cars registered as collector cars have a 3k miles/year max and don’t need the inspection after 25 years (the collector cars get that triangle sticker shown earlier in this thread which is good for 5 years). I have regular plates (not QQ or antique plates) on both my 1989 911 and 1978 VW beetle, both of them have no inspection sticker since none is required, and neither has a front plate. I notice almost every Tesla and genesis on the NJ roads have no front plate. Same with every corvette and most 911’s, and other car styles. You are required to have a front plate for regular cars in NJ, but over 10 years ago I too got a no front plate ticket in my Porsche instead of a speeding ticket (big thank you to the police officer!)
