Thiught this deserved a new thread http://mobile.nj.com/advnj/pm_31086/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=0TVtMh2O
BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Remember all those people saying Austin wouldn't happen and NJ would!!?? I'll take two races in Austin though!!
I was in a helicopter on Monday heading into Manhattan and the pilot and I were talking about the race location - we were running early so he took me over to where the race was going to be held and we flew around the area a bit before heading to our destination. There is definitely a lot of work being done. It's always about money, every time... the last I heard, the organizers of NJ were asking/expecting businesses who would benefit from the race to kick in some of the $$$, but they were reluctant to do so. Too bad they are not going to make it for 2013, but better to have a good experience than something hacked together to make a deadline.
i always had the i'll believe it when i see it attitude on this. i hope it eventually happens i was hoping to drive to this with some other ferraris.
...not unless you considering paying the Race fee to Bernie a bribe. As I mentioned in the other NJ thread, this cancelation was coming.
Absolultely. Where was the Indy road race this year that had a ton of issues, roads incredibly bouncy and then had to delay the race for areas that were coming apart due to the downforce? That was a true **** up.
So did I. I was hopeful because I have relatives who live in the city with whom I could stay and a trip to NYC would be a more enjoyable weekend for the wife than Austin. Oh well, maybe next time. -F
Just posted at Autosport; Hopefully, 2014 works out. Does seem they've got the Pygmy on their side, which is nice. Cheers, Ian
+1 Said a very wise man...... Speaking of which, do we know what our old buddy Tavo's status is right now? [IIRC, lawsuits were flying, but dunno?] He is (was?) apparently real tight with the Pygmy - Maybe Leo should hire him....... Cheers, Ian
Dunno for sure but I think his name featured prominently in the most recent USGP announcement out of Texas. When the money's flowing so does the love.
Check out this article, just came out today. Kudos to Forbes for giving Tavo his proper recognition regarding design of the track and bringing F1 back to the states: http://www.forbes.com/sites/christopherhelman/2012/10/19/wild-ride/ The article also mentions he's working with the promoters trying to get a Mexican F1 race. And speaking of Tavo, a lot of us on the COTA mailing list also got a mysterious email a couple of days ago... from "COTA F1 News" with a video about Tavo, and a cryptic note like "it's almost here" plus a link to a website. The website was run by the company that did the Full Throttle and original Circuit of the Americas site (Red Rocket in Dallas). Within hours the website had been taken down. A bit of a mystery.
I'm one of those people and I was dead wrong. I'll have fries with that crow please. As for next year: Checked on hotels today and magically a handful of places are accepting reservations. So I booked 3 nights for next year's Austin GP.
