I was waiting for a comment from you. I was hoping you'd know something that would all of this somehow/magically turn around, but I guess no.

Fingers crossed for 2014 (but not holding my breath).

    Eventually they all learn that.

If Austin gets the projected crowds, a NY/NJ race should be commercially viable. And as a venue, second only to Monaco in glam.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, Monaco vs. NJ? :D ;) Just messin' with ya.

I agree, it would make for a good location. Easy to fill seats IMO, including a lot of high rollers.

    Ever been to Monaco?
There are parts of NJ I'll take any day. ;)

In any case no matter what it's called, it's the NYCGP.

    True dat.

Probably eating into Montreal's market share. But also attracting Europeans and South Americans who will combine it with a shopping trip in NY.

However I'm not convinced yet that Austin will sell out. I know there are almost no tickets left anymore, but lets see the grandstands on race day.

Easy there: Just because you followed the road past Monaco into Ventimiglia doesn't mean that Monaco ain't pretty. :p

Actually I wouldn't mind with this swap either.

Paul Ricard isn't far away from AGS' F1 driving experience. :)

That said, I think this is just Bernie's way to create pressure on the NJ organizers.

I hope its for real. NY/NJ have had ample time to come up with a workable plan. If they come through thats good of course. I will go to France if this does become possible!!

NY could still happen. In an interview Bernie mentioned, that he wants Red Bull to take ownership of the event. Sounds like Austin all over again: The original organizers get replaced by folks who can actually pull it off. Red Bull would certainly have the $ and know how to pull it off.

As for France: Yeah, I'd go to that GP multiple times: It is smack in the middle of one of the most beautiful and interesting places on Earth. Easy sell to the Misses and lots of other things to do and visit.

    Voulez, voulez, St. Tropez!

If any country "deserves" a GP its France.
If any country can throw a better GP its NY.

Throw a couple of expansion races away if need be. They wouldn't be missed.

Actually the government is starting to realize that this is a total failure and that the industrial evolution of the area remains a pipe dream (anybody remember the fancy 3D renderings they showed last year before the GP where it looked like the track was in the middle of a downtown area?). So in essence they want out but Bernie is holding them to the contract.

Speculation is however that it might soon be over (couple more years tops).

Those phantom buildings are why the walls are so close at some points.

Governments still think they can create their own reality.

No, I've never had the pleasure. I just assumed Monaco was more glamorous than New Jersey. :D

Well governments help create reality but never the one they envisage. ;)

The best we can expect from most politicians is that they just let things happen, spending all their time and effort taking credit for it. Keeps them out of mischief.

Contrary to popular belief what you see from the NJ Turnpike is not all there is.

The southern part of the state has a lot of agriculture. The coast is quite lovely despite what MTV tells you. World class diners and traffic circles too.

I have to believe that if this (or any) sport is going to survive long-term, they have to figure out how to do it without living off the backs of taxpayers. I have a feeling we've only seen the tip of the iceberg of public backlash.

It's only a losing proposition because of the way it's structured. With all the money involved in F1, I find it hard to consider the expectation of massive taxpayer "contribution" as anything other than immense greed.

Don't want to throw Kerosene on the NJ flames, but I truly do hope NJ happens. NJ does get a bad wrap and personally not being from here I could care less about NY or NJ, there are plenty of places I'd rather live and work, but I do get a salary so I put up with the downsides.

I think Bernie and F1 would be wise to embrace Port Imperial. I've lived here since 2005 and in all honesty I can't imagine a Tri-state race ever happening in any other place but Port Imperial. The mass media have no clue. They show the typical Jersey Shore and NJ housewives, when in reality the Hudson is quite a small and quiet community.

If you actually "live" on the Hudson river half the local population tend to be international families and/or individuals who have relocated from other areas. It is the only reason I am still in this state. The view is spectacular, but you don't have to put up with the BS of hoboken or Manhattan!...why this area was never developed years ago is beyond me?

If Leo and Co. can get their act together I could see the race being a wonderful event. Especially if locked in back to back with Montreal.

Just hoping Hurricane Sandy doesn't flood out the track to bad this week!!!

I also hope NJ can get their issues resolved as it would be great to have two F1 races in the US.
