Ok, so I did not even order yet the Kyosho F40 LW in black, but I had the red since it came out. I also have the red and yellow standard version from Kyosho. So being sure that one day I'll get the black LW I decided to mess around a little with my red one. Mainly I wanted to replace the rear spoiler. So I figured, just unglue the old one and try to make the pieces from an old LM kit work. Well it turned out impossible to "unglue" it , so I got frustrated and this is the result

As clever and plain anal Kyosho are, they attached the wing same way as the factory, with metal pins. The good news is that I was able to drill pilot holes in my new wing which helps alignment and makes for much stronger assembly

Now I need some help guys. Do you know how these wings were made. Carbon fiber or aluminum? Both wings or just the little flap above the main wing? What about plates on the sides. Also on most pictures these wings look black. Were they painted black even if made from carbon fiber? Any input is appreciated.

I am pretty sure they were all carbon fiber.

The very upper lip on most of them is polished aluminum. The question is should I use CF decals or just painted semigloss black. You build a lot of them. What do you think?

When I test fitted the rear wind I found out that it came 1mm (1/32") short between the posts. Well since I could not just go back to the original wing I had to do something about it. So I decided to shimmy the sides. I did this by building CA directly on the posts and sanding it down to a 1/2mm thickness on each side. To make them "disappear" I painted them black. Once the wing is in place, the shimmies become invisible.

Next the support had to be made. I had the photoetched part, but it did not fit very well so it had to reshaped slightly. Then the little bracket on the bottom of it was made from pieces of plastic. Little tiny holes on the sides of the bracket were drilled to imitate screws. Worked pretty well.

Great work man, and brave of you to mess with a $120 Kyosho!

Kinda cool that they attached that part of the wing with "pins" like the real car....

As far as I know, just an F40 with a LM wing insert.

Correct. On a picture I have seen on F-chat with all the F40 from Japan, it feels like half of the F40s on the picture had this type of wings. There were a couple that have the wing an the wheel combo just like on my model. I wanted it to look different from the black LW. easier to justify buying the black. :D
