I have a 1992 348ts and tried to check the ECU codes today, but, alas, no buttons. Thanks to the 348 Primer, I know I need to order the Tester Cable (PN 146196) and the button (PN 145810), but have a few questions.

1 - Do I order two of each and permanently install them? If so,where are they installed?
2 - Where do I plug the Tester Cable into the ECU?

As always, I appreciate any assistance.

    Mike

The parts that you ordered are shown in this diagram as #2 and #3. They just snap on. You can unsnap them and move them from one ECU to the other, or you can buy two of each and snap them into both ECUs. The ECUs are located behind the carpeted panel that is behind both seats in the driver's cockpit.

PS: you will also need to install two light bulbs behind each of your ChecK Engine Lights (CEL 1-4 and CEL 5-8). Easy to do. Just unscrew the two phillips screws that are at the bottom on the extreme left and right flanks of your black driver instrument pod.

You don't even have to buy new bulbs. You can move your seat belt warning light bulbs into the CEL slots if desired.

Checking your codes will *always* be possible on Motronic 2.7, but may not always be possible on Motronic 2.5. Early 348's had Motronic 2.5. Later 348's have M2.7.

Easy to pop your engine lid to look for two Throttle Position Sensors (TPS), though.

If you have two black TPS's, then you have M2.7.

TPS are #7 in the diagram below. They are black and placed on top of one or both throttle bodies.

If you only have one TPS, then you have an early M2.5 348.

This has to be the best and cheapest upgrade on the euro 348s possible. and so easy! It even works a treat telling me i am fine. you dont even have to buy a push button of course, just make up a switch to wire up to the two connections - there are 3 wires there will have a look and see which two i mean.

    Many thanks for the info.

Walclare, I can't find the 'official' wire (listed for $22) available anywhere. If you can help please do. I appreciate it.

    Thanks,

Hi Walclare. I have been unable to buy the wire from Europarts. Got the push button alright, but no good without cable. Out of stock. The button only requires two wires as you mentioned above. The connection to the ecu has 3 wires.I was wondering which two wires are used? I can probably make up my own connections.CAN ANYBODY HELP?Thanks in advance. Regards Phil.

I have the official buttons if some one needs them. But why spend the money or the time? Just bend a paperclip and you can short the terminals of the 2 wire pigtail on your wiring harness by the ecu's.

Your right FBB but remember Prince Phillip and us other euros don't have the pigtail in our 348s. That was the part he was short of in the first place. Not that that isnt easy enough to wire up, as long as you know which 2 of the 3 to wire. back to no doubts post.
Nice to see royalty posting here by the way. Hes obviously turning to cars now shooting season has finished.
