This thread mentions Spal 2049: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/replaced-radiator-fans-on-f355-today-easy-project.284513/ Looking at The Fan Man site: https://the-fan-man.com/product/16-spal-high-profile-pull-type-electric-fan-s2049/#
Awesome Ian. Thank you I had clicked on a fan man link and it was another business so I assumed it was broken. I get at the fan today and confirm my suspicions on it being dead. do you see a link for the relay light relay?
The OEM number is 157802. That is NLA. It was superseded by Ferrari P/N 40283905 Seems to be a Bosch 0332015006. I think these are the notoriously hard to find "K" relays (Miro may correct me on this). https://www.amazon.com.au/Bosch-Automotive-0332015006-Normal-Relays/dp/B004Z0TRPA Not so cheap, that's why I suggested swapping it first.
I tested both relays crossing 85/87 and neither work. I confirmed 85/87 on another relay and it worked. I have no idea if secondary air pump has been working and now I don’t think I’ve heard that whine thinking about it Ordered two relays
Not sure what "crossing 85/87" means. 85 is one leg of the coil. 87 is one of the contacts (normally open until the relay is energised). Image Unavailable, Please Login In theory, you could insert a regular relay in the light relay socket and half of the circuits should work. If you then energised the relay with the stalk switch, the other half of the circuits should work (and the other half extinguish). I'll run some tests on my own car to see which pin (87 and 87b goes to which fuse) to see exactly what should happen. Could you check that the relay is getting power from the stalk? Pull the relay and look for 12 volts on either pin 85 or 86 with the sidelights turned on (and ignition).
I meant jumping 85/86 on the bench with 12v supply. No click, nothing from either relay. I check power at the board as you suggested. thank you
Look for power on the relay socket on pin 86 with the ignition on and the stalk switch on (first position). This will tell you if your stalk switch is working. I had forgotten how hard it is to check these relays. The frunk cutout isn't big enough to access all the relays.
Summary: pin 86 is power from the stalk switch (when turned on) pin 87b is the output to the LH park & RH park fuses pin 87 is the output to the Instruments fuse and the foglight coil. Pin 30 is power Pin 86 is earth In theory, if you put a regular relay in the lighting relay position, the sidelights should come on immediately (even with ignition off and light switch off). If you turn on the ignition and stalk switch, the sidelights should go out and the instrument lights should come on and your front foglight should work.
A couple screws and you can lift the liner. I tried removing the relay without doing that and dropped it behind the fuse box and had to lift the liner to get it
Oops.. Correction: Summary: pin 86 is power from the stalk switch (when turned on) pin 87b is the output to the LH park & RH park fuses pin 87 is the output to the Instruments fuse and the foglight coil. Pin 30 is power Pin 85 is earth
Funny It just came on today. Although I have had issues with that in the past. I haven’t checked codes but I bet it’s 1440
Not sure. I don't have a code chart specific to the 5.2. My Ferrari 360 code list shows "Evaporative Emission Control System (Bank 2)" for code 1440. On the 2.7 cars, the Secondary Air codes are 1123 and 2123. Do you have the original metal relays on your car for relays F and L? My metal relays are definitely audible (even using a small 9V battery to trigger the coil)
Yes both the metal ones I pulled an adjacent relay just to know what I was listening for testing and both of those are definitely dead
1440 is my nemesis and has been. I don’t think having the air pump working will matter as I have had that code for ten years I clear it for inspection but it always comes back I have mini cats on the sensor etc That’s another topic Ian I ordered the relays should be this week thanks again
Sounds promising. Hopefully a cheap/easy fix for this one.... unlike the rash of weird lighting issues we've been having on the forum recently. I think it's safe to put my car back together (no further testing required)
We have lights!! Received one of the two relays I ordered and that took care of the lighting issue. I’ll assume that the other with fix the pump as well. Maybe these original relay parts are problematic or just a coincidence that I had both go?
I would expect the contacts of the secondary air relay to be under stress, but not the coil. A strange coincidence indeed.
Installed air pump relay and there’s the whine. so both relays went south. (US phrase for went bad. Maybe you guys say went north?? ) Thanks for the help Ian
