The French Motor Sporting Federation (FFSA) has confirmed that there will not be a French Grand Prix next year. This follows news earlier today from French newspaper L'Equipe that Magny Cours would not take place in 2008 due to accommodation and access problems.

A statement from the FFSA read: "The French Motor Sporting Federation (FFSA), the organiser and promoter of the event, would like to make it clear that its Committee, which met on 21st March 2007, has unanimously decided to suspend the inscription of the French Grand Prix on the 2008 calendar as all the conditions necessary for success were not met.

"The FFSA Committee will re-examine the situation during its next meeting in July 2007.

"The first priority is that the 2007 French Grand Prix should take place in the best possible conditions on 1st July 2007 on the Nevers Magny-Cours circuit, where a well-filled programme awaits the spectators," the statement ended.

To move the race to closer to Paris is a good thing. It took us 3.5+ hours just to drive from Charles de Gaulle airport to the south of Paris and then drive time onto Nevers.

Any one remember the proposal that the French and English GPs would alternate yearly? I'm guessing this is somehow related to this.

yes, these talks emerged a few months ago, due to the fact that both GPs aren't doing well. but i think it was dismissed.

what about the Circuit de la Sarthe anyone? :D

Yeah I read that in Computer Apps today. First time since 1955 that there wont be a French Grand Prix (1955 was the year of the Le Mans disaster).

I think a race in Paris would be cool, like going under the Eiffel Tower for the Start/Finish line or something, make the circuit run through all of downtown Paris, like a 6 mile street course, not so many laps, but that would be cool.

However, I think Circuit de la Sarthe would be an amazing place for the race...especially if, dare I suggest it, the took the chicane out of the Mulsanne straight, and let the track be what it was in the glory days, and maybe make the drivers run across the grid to start their cars...with something to assist them of course but that would be freekin awesome.
It would only add the that circuits prestige and history.
