    Guys....
I am hoping someone can shine the light on this. Nothing new here regarding the legendary gearbox issues and sensors problems with the Ferrari California. Unfortunately, I own one of those.

The car displayed the overheated clutch signal and shut down in the middle of the road. Car goes to a repair shop who diagnose the car with DCT faulty reads all over. Reset everything.. 8 miles later, same problem. The car goes to Ferrari who also does the 25,000 miles maintenance. I pick it up with all clear codes. 10 miles later, boom. Again.

Their service department tell me the transmission sensor needs to be changed ($11K).

Is this what is going to fix this problem once for all? Either I don't know how to drive this car or something is terribly wrong here.

    Has anybody experienced this?
    Thank you for the help!

A frustrated owner who has a car who spent more time on the back of a flatbed truck than on the road.

Unfortunately I did experienced that and worst. If you go to page 4 on the California section there is a thread titled "Black nero non metallic Cali - paint care and maintenance" were I've written some of my experiences on this particular subject and also posted pictures.

My Cali was around 23.000 Km when the first symptoms started and after a long diagnose which lasted almost one month Ferrari confirmed that the gear-box main shaft speed sensor was faulty. Under the extended warranty the DCT was removed, opened, repaired and placed back. When the car was ready to be given back to the electric brake activator which is located inside the gear-box wasn't working properly and Ferrari ordered the dealer to remove the DCT a second time, open it again and repair the fault. When finally finished and gave me back the Cali I noticed the radio and the GPS antenas weren't working properly and it took them two weeks more to discover that the origin of the problem was faulty cable which was substituted.

When this Greek tragedy ended I just ask myself what else is going to happen. Four months later I sold my Cali.

It sounds like the speed sensor has gone bad ... if you bought the car from a dealer I would be talking to them. They should get it fixed for you. It's nothing you did driving the car. It's possible the last owner knew it was acting up and dumped it on a dealer -- or on you, unfortunately.

Depending on where you live, there may be a statutory warranty on a car sale -- in Massachusetts, for example, the dealer has to fix any mechanical issue that affects the safety of the car for the first 30-90 days (depending on the mileage of the car) or give you your money back. Kind of like a lemon law for used cars. A gearbox that makes the car undriveable would certainly qualify in that department.
